Golf Operations Manager

Under the direction of the Head Golf Professional, serves as Golf Operations Manager. Performs a wide variety of responsible duties requiring the exercise of judgment and initiative in the management of municipal golf course operations. This position manages the efficient daily operations and services of the municipal golf course, including building management, staff supervision, fiscal controls, marketing, pro-shop inventory, tournament organization, league administration, instructional programming, and customer service operations.

This position serves as a primary liaison between the City of Boston, golf patrons, leagues, associations, vendors, contractors, food service partners, and community organizations, and is responsible for resolving customer service issues, real-time operational challenges, and maintaining professional standards of service across the facility.

Operations & Facility Management:
  • Oversees daily clubhouse, pro-shop, and outside services operations.
  • Implements and monitors opening and closing financial and facility procedures.
  • Ensures compliance with City of Boston policies, safety standards, and PGA best practices.
  • Coordinates daily operations with maintenance staff including cart service, course readiness, and operational supply management.
  • Serves as a liaison to all vendors, contractors, and food service operators supporting golf course operations.
  • Oversees the maintenance, cleaning, readiness, and daily availability of the golf cart fleet.
  • Coordinates cart rotation, cleaning standards, staging, charging, fueling, and reporting of cart usage and service issues.
  • Works directly with maintenance staff and vendors to ensure carts are safe, operational, and presentable for public use.
  • Maintains records of cart condition, service needs, and inventory.
  • Supports marketing initiatives, promotional campaigns, email communications, and social media engagement.
  • Assists in outreach to community partners and stakeholders.
Staff Supervision & Leadership:
  • Trains, schedules, and supervises seasonal and part-time golf operations staff.
  • Provides daily oversight to starters, rangers, car staff and pro-shop personnel.
  • Monitors customer service quality, pace of play, and facility standards.
  • Coaches staff in professional conduct and customer service expectations.

League, Association, Special Events and Customer Relations:

  • Serves as the primary liaison to golf leagues, associations, and organized play groups utilizing City of Boston golf facilities.
  • Coordinates and administers league and association play including scheduling, registration, billing, communications, rules enforcement.
  • Resolves customer service issues, patron complaints, and real-time operational challenges.
  • Acts as the on-site authority for conflict resolution, pace of play enforcement and customer service escalations.
  • Represents the City of Boston in interactions with patrons, league officials, vendors, contractors, and community partners.
  • Manages the City Junior Golf Program, adult instructional clinics, Get Golf Ready programs, and instructional offerings.
  • Assists in golf instruction and supports the development of PGA-recognized programs.
  • Coordinates corporate, charitable, and municipal tournaments.
  • Manages event logistics, communications, billing, and tee-time blockings.

Pro-Shop, Inventory, & Financial Controls:

  • Oversees merchandising strategy, displays, and inventory systems.
  • Manages point-of-sale systems, tee sheet monitoring, reconciliation, and reporting.
  • Tracks inventory and prepares sales and operations reports.
Minimum Entrance Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Sports Management, Business, Recreation, or related field, or equivalent professional experience.
  • Minimum three (3) years progressively responsible experience in golf course operations, instruction, tournament, or clubhouse management.
  • Demonstrated supervisory experience.
  • Proficiency with POS systems, tee-time software, Microsoft Office and Google Workspace.
  • Strong Knowledge of USGA rules and golf facility operations.
  • Demonstrated customer service, communication, conflict-resolution, and interpersonal skills.
  • Valid Massachusetts Driver's License.
  • Ability to work flexible schedules including weekends and holidays.

Preferred:

  • PGA Apprentice or Class A membership.
  • Municipal golf experience.
