Job description

Job Title: Assistant Golf Course Superintendent

Position Summary

This is a highly responsible professional who manages 18 holes on a golf course, including greens, surrounding areas, and 200 acres of property. They are responsible for building maintenance, environmental compliance, event organization, budgeting, and general supervision of a crew of 5-8 full‑time staff and 10-20 part‑time student employees.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in bentgrass greens management; crew supervision; aerification; operational knowledge of golf course equipment and chemical application.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies
  • Turfgrass Management
  • Delegate to others and ensure tasks are completed in a timely fashion
  • Up to date with processes regarding golf course maintenance
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships
  • Knowledge of UGA Golf Course Best Management Practices Guidelines
  • Be proficient with Irrigation software

Duties and Responsibilities

Training: Responsible for onboarding, training, and continuing education of new and current employees.

Employee Time Management: Schedule work for employees within budgetary limits, maintain a daily accurate tracking system, and enforce weekend work schedules.

Daily Scheduling and Supervision of Work: Plan assignments, maintain a daily task log, and conduct performance evaluations.

Management of the Timekeeping System: Monitor and approve timecards, ensure proper breaks and card consistency.

Supervise Field Irrigation Maintenance: Perform irrigation technician duties, diagnose problems, and maintain irrigation equipment.

Care of Maintenance Facilities: Ensure all buildings are clear, safe, and inspected weekly.

Care of Chemical Buildings: Manage storage, labeling, and safety procedures, and coordinate with UGA Environmental Safety Division.

Integrated Pest Management: Scout for pests across 150 acres and implement control measures.

Pesticide Application & Chemical Management: Apply chemicals per regulations, maintain records, and manage storage and inventory.

Management of Golf Course Bathrooms, Rain Shelters, Maintenance Office, and Shop Bathroom: Ensure cleanliness and timely repairs.

Underground Storage Tank (Fuel) Management: Maintain certification, inspections, and safety compliance.

Equipment Coordination: Schedule equipment needs and communicate with maintenance mechanics.

Golf Course Improvement Projects: Prepare written reports and maintain digital copies of project proposals.

Irrigation Software and Pump Maintenance: Operate irrigation software, schedule pump maintenance, and keep usage logs.
