Position Summary
The Yard Goat Driver is responsible for safely and efficiently moving trailers, containers, and equipment throughout the plant yard during the pistachio harvest season. This position supports harvest operations by ensuring trailers are properly positioned for loading and unloading activities, maintaining organized yard operations, and coordinating equipment movement with warehouse, logistics, and production personnel. The Yard Goat Driver must comply with all company safety, food safety, and operational requirements while maintaining accurate records and supporting plant operations as needed.
Essential Functions
• Safely operate yard goat trucks and related equipment to move trailers and containers throughout the facility.
• Position trailers accurately for loading, unloading, and storage operations.
• Maintain an organized, safe, and efficient yard layout.
• Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections of yard goat equipment.
• Identify and report maintenance concerns, equipment damage, and safety hazards.
• Coordinate trailer movements with loading schedules, warehouse operations, and production requirements.
• Communicate effectively with loaders, forklift operators, warehouse personnel, and supervisors.
• Provide updates regarding yard activities, trailer locations, and operational issues.
• Maintain accurate records of trailer movements and yard operations.
• Complete required documentation accurately and in a timely manner.
• Assist pit workers with product movement when required.
• Support harvest operations and other logistics activities as assigned.
• Follow all company safety policies, food safety programs, and operational procedures.
• Wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
• Maintain regular and reliable attendance.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education and Experience
• Valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) required.
• Previous experience operating yard goat trucks or similar heavy equipment preferred.
• Previous logistics, transportation, warehouse, or yard operations experience preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
• Knowledge of safe operating procedures for heavy equipment and commercial vehicles.
• Understanding of yard management and trailer movement operations.
• Strong communication and coordination skills.
• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
• Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Strong attention to safety and operational detail.
• Ability to work extended hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays during harvest season.
Work Environment
• Primarily works outdoors in plant yard operations.
• Frequent exposure to dust, dirt, noise, truck traffic, trailers, machinery, and changing weather conditions.
• High-traffic industrial environment with frequent movement of vehicles and equipment.
• Exposure to heat, cold, fumes, heights, and industrial hazards.
• Must comply with all company safety and food safety requirements.
• Required PPE includes slip-resistant footwear, gloves, safety glasses, hearing protection, hard hats, and high-visibility safety vests.
