What is Go programming?

Go programming refers to the use of the Go language, also known as Golang, which is an open-source programming language developed by Google. Go is designed for simplicity, efficiency, and reliability, making it well-suited for building scalable web servers, cloud-based applications, and other high-performance software. Its strong support for concurrency, garbage collection, and easy-to-read syntax have contributed to its popularity among developers. Go is often used in backend development, DevOps, and microservices architectures.

What are some common challenges Go programmers face when working on large-scale projects?

Go programmers working on large-scale projects often encounter challenges such as managing dependencies across multiple modules, ensuring efficient concurrency without introducing race conditions, and maintaining code readability as the codebase grows. Collaboration with other team members is key, as Go encourages code simplicity and clear documentation, making code reviews and shared standards important. Additionally, integrating Go services with existing systems and optimizing performance for production environments can present learning opportunities and growth experiences.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Go programmer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Go Programmer, you need strong proficiency in the Go programming language, a solid understanding of software engineering principles, and typically a degree in computer science or related experience. Familiarity with tools like Git, Docker, and cloud platforms, as well as knowledge of RESTful APIs and concurrency patterns, is highly valuable. Problem-solving ability, effective communication, and teamwork are essential soft skills for collaborating on complex projects and adapting to evolving requirements. These skills and qualities are crucial for building efficient, scalable, and maintainable software solutions in fast-paced development environments.

Job description

The Opportunity

Senior Electrical Engineer (PE) โ€“ Lead & Grow with RS&H

At RS&H, we go beyond designing buildingsโ€”we create solutions that shape communities, strengthen industries, and make a lasting impact.

Weโ€™re seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer (PE) who is ready to step into a true leadership roleโ€”leading teams, influencing direction, and helping grow a high-performing electrical practice for our buildings engineering team in Charlotte, NC or Jacksonville, FL.

This is more than a Senior engineer position. Itโ€™s an opportunity to mentor, build, and lead, while still staying connected to meaningful, high-impact work.

What Youโ€™ll Do

In this role, youโ€™ll operate at both a technical and leadership level, with a strong emphasis on team development and client engagement:

  • Lead and manage an electrical engineering group, supporting team growth and performance
  • Serve as Engineer of Record and provide technical oversight across complex projects
  • Drive project delivery as a Project Engineer and/or Project Manager across aviation, federal, healthcare, and commercial sectors
  • Partner with multidisciplinary teams to deliver integrated, high-quality solutions
  • Mentor and develop junior engineers and designers, helping shape the next generation of talent
  • Build and maintain strong client relationships, serving as a trusted advisor
  • Contribute to strategic growth initiatives, including hiring and team expansion
  • Support projects from concept through construction, including coordination and quality control

What You Bring

  • Bachelorโ€™s or Masterโ€™s degree in Electrical Engineering (accredited program)
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license required
  • 10+ years of experience in electrical engineering (building systems preferred)
  • Proven experience leading projects, teams, or both
  • Strong knowledge of NEC, NFPA, and applicable codes
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor and guide junior staff
  • Excellent communication skills and client-facing experience
  • Ability to operate both strategically and technically

Nice to Have:

  • Experience with Revit
  • Background in aviation, healthcare, federal, or largeโ€‘scale commercial projects
  • Interest in business development or practice growth

Why This Role Stands Out

  • Leadership-first opportunity: Step into a role where youโ€™re leading peopleโ€”not just producing design
  • Real impact: Help shape and grow a team while influencing project direction
  • Diverse, high-visibility work: From aviation terminal expansions to healthcare and national commercial programs
  • Clear path forward: Positioned for continued leadership growth within the organization

Why RS&H?

  • Work on impactful projects across aviation, federal, healthcare, and commercial markets
  • Collaborate in a people-first culture that values mentorship and growth
  • Gain exposure to national programs and healthcare leaders
  • Be part of a firm known for technical excellence and long-term client partnerships
  • Employee Ownership Opportunities

Benefits That Support You

  • Competitive compensation
  • Generous PTO and paid holidays
  • Medical, dental, and vision coverage
  • 401(k) with company contribution
  • Career development and advancement opportunities

If youโ€™re an experienced electrical engineer whoโ€™s ready to lead, mentor, and make a broader impact, this is the kind of role that can take your career to the next level.
