A Go programmer's salary varies based on experience, location, and industry, but typically ranges from $70,000 to $130,000 annually in many regions. Senior developers with specialized skills in concurrent programming and cloud environments can earn higher salaries, especially in tech hubs or companies requiring advanced knowledge of Go and related tools.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Go Programmer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Go Programmer, you need strong proficiency in the Go programming language, a solid understanding of software engineering principles, and typically a degree in computer science or related experience. Familiarity with tools like Git, Docker, and cloud platforms, as well as knowledge of RESTful APIs and concurrency patterns, is highly valuable. Problem-solving ability, effective communication, and teamwork are essential soft skills for collaborating on complex projects and adapting to evolving requirements. These skills and qualities are crucial for building efficient, scalable, and maintainable software solutions in fast-paced development environments.

What is Go programming?

Go programming refers to the use of the Go language, also known as Golang, which is an open-source programming language developed by Google. Go is designed for simplicity, efficiency, and reliability, making it well-suited for building scalable web servers, cloud-based applications, and other high-performance software. Its strong support for concurrency, garbage collection, and easy-to-read syntax have contributed to its popularity among developers. Go is often used in backend development, DevOps, and microservices architectures.

What jobs can I get as a Go programmer?

Go programmers can find roles such as backend developers, cloud infrastructure engineers, and DevOps specialists, often working with tools like Docker, Kubernetes, and cloud platforms. These positions typically require knowledge of concurrent programming, APIs, and system architecture, and may involve working in agile environments or with microservices architectures.

What are some common challenges Go programmers face when working on large-scale projects?

Go programmers working on large-scale projects often encounter challenges such as managing dependencies across multiple modules, ensuring efficient concurrency without introducing race conditions, and maintaining code readability as the codebase grows. Collaboration with other team members is key, as Go encourages code simplicity and clear documentation, making code reviews and shared standards important. Additionally, integrating Go services with existing systems and optimizing performance for production environments can present learning opportunities and growth experiences.

What is the difference between Go Programming vs Python Programming?

AspectGo ProgrammingPython Programming
Primary UseSystem, network, and backend developmentWeb development, data analysis, scripting
SyntaxStatically typed, concise, compiledDynamically typed, readable, interpreted

Job description

SMBHD (www.smbhd.com) is a boutique Salesforce consulting firm built for small and mid-market businesses. We work in small, focused delivery pods and we're looking for engineers who thrive with broad ownership, direct client contact, and the autonomy to shape a solution from first conversation to go-live.

If you've been looking for a role where the distance between understanding a problem and solving it is as short as possible, this is it.
THE ROLE

Process Forward Salesforce Engineers are the core of how we deliver. You work inside a pod of 34 engineers running 24 client engagements at a time sometimes as the sole technical lead on a project, sometimes alongside pod teammates on a larger one. The model is intentionally lean. There's no separate analyst to gather requirements, no separate trainer to run enablement, no separate developer to build what you've scoped.
You do all of it. Not because we're cutting corners, but because the best solutions come from people who stay connected to the problem from discovery through deployment. You shape the requirements because you understand what's buildable. You build the solution because you understand what the client actually needs. You run the training because you built the thing and know it better than anyone.
This is the role for someone who finds handoffs frustrating and broad ownership energizing.
WHAT YOU'LL DO

Run discovery sessions and requirements workshops directly with client stakeholders translating messy business problems into clean, buildable solutions
Design and deploy AI-powered workflows, agents, and automations on the Salesforce platform Agentforce, Flow, Apex, LWC
Architect integrations between Salesforce and client systems across REST/SOAP APIs and data pipelines
Own data migrations from legacy systems into Salesforce
Deliver end-user training and drive adoption so clients don't just go live they actually use what you built
Work across 24 active projects with your pod, context-switching with intention and keeping every engagement moving
Contribute to SMBHD's delivery playbooks by bringing real-world patterns back from the field
Support scoping and estimates as engagements develop
WHO YOU ARE

You have deep Salesforce chops Apex, Flow, LWC, declarative config, integrations and you've delivered enough full implementations to know where things usually go wrong. You're comfortable in front of a VP explaining the solution and comfortable in a code editor building it the same afternoon.
You've probably felt the friction of roles that keep you too far from one end or the other. Maybe you're a developer who wishes they had more say in shaping the problem. Maybe you're a consultant who wants to get closer to the build. Either way, you've been looking for a model where that gap doesn't exist.
You're not intimidated by AI you're already experimenting with it, thinking about how it changes what's possible on the platform, and looking for a place that takes that seriously.
REQUIREMENTS

5+ years delivering Salesforce solutions end-to-end, from requirements through go-live
Strong Apex, Flow, LWC, and declarative configuration
Experience leading client-facing discovery, requirements gathering, and stakeholder workshops
REST/SOAP API design and integration experience
3+ Salesforce certifications (Admin, PD1, App Builder, or relevant Cloud certs)
GIT and CI/CD experience
Excellent communication across both technical and business audiences
Bachelor's degree in CS, MIS, Business, or equivalent experience
Bonus Points:
Hands-on experience with Agentforce, Einstein, or Salesforce AI products
Prompt engineering or LLM application experience
5+ Salesforce certifications
Experience delivering end-user training and change management
Background across multiple Salesforce clouds Sales, Service, Communities, Marketing
PERKS

Medical, Dental, Vision & Disability Insurance
401(k) with 6% match (no vesting period)
Flexible schedule
A team that ships, not just advises
OUR CORE VALUES

Be Smart and Ambitious.
