Go Programming information

What is Go programming?

Go programming refers to the use of the Go language, also known as Golang, which is an open-source programming language developed by Google. Go is designed for simplicity, efficiency, and reliability, making it well-suited for building scalable web servers, cloud-based applications, and other high-performance software. Its strong support for concurrency, garbage collection, and easy-to-read syntax have contributed to its popularity among developers. Go is often used in backend development, DevOps, and microservices architectures.

What are some common challenges Go programmers face when working on large-scale projects?

Go programmers working on large-scale projects often encounter challenges such as managing dependencies across multiple modules, ensuring efficient concurrency without introducing race conditions, and maintaining code readability as the codebase grows. Collaboration with other team members is key, as Go encourages code simplicity and clear documentation, making code reviews and shared standards important. Additionally, integrating Go services with existing systems and optimizing performance for production environments can present learning opportunities and growth experiences.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Go programmer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Go Programmer, you need strong proficiency in the Go programming language, a solid understanding of software engineering principles, and typically a degree in computer science or related experience. Familiarity with tools like Git, Docker, and cloud platforms, as well as knowledge of RESTful APIs and concurrency patterns, is highly valuable. Problem-solving ability, effective communication, and teamwork are essential soft skills for collaborating on complex projects and adapting to evolving requirements. These skills and qualities are crucial for building efficient, scalable, and maintainable software solutions in fast-paced development environments.

What is the difference between Go Programming vs Python Programming?

AspectGo ProgrammingPython Programming
Primary UseSystem, network, and backend developmentWeb development, data analysis, scripting
SyntaxStatically typed, concise, compiledDynamically typed, readable, interpreted
PerformanceHigh performance, suitable for concurrent tasksModerate performance, flexible for rapid development
Learning CurveModerate, requires understanding of concurrencyEasy to learn, beginner-friendly
Community & UsageGrowing, used in cloud infrastructure and microservicesLarge, versatile, used across many industries

Go Programming is optimized for high-performance backend and system-level applications, especially in cloud and microservices environments. Python Programming offers greater flexibility and ease of use for web, data, and scripting tasks. The choice depends on project requirements and developer expertise.

Is Go Programming in high demand?

Go programming is in high demand, especially in cloud computing, microservices, and backend development. Companies value Go for its performance, simplicity, and concurrency support, leading to strong job growth and competitive salaries for skilled developers.

Job description

Testing and Automation Engineer

Ready to build what’s next with one of the world’s most iconic brands?

Why Join Subway?

At Subway, we are not standing still. We are building.

This is a business focused on what matters most: growing franchisee profitability, strengthening our brand and creating long-term value. The people who thrive here are the ones who want to make a real impact.

You will not just do the work. You will shape it.

We move fast. We think like owners. We make decisions that matter. We hold ourselves to a high standard because what we do directly impacts thousands of franchisees around the world.

If you bring energy, accountability and a bias for action, you will fit right in.

We take the work seriously, but we also know the best results come from teams that support each other, celebrate wins and show up ready to build something better every day.

This is your chance to be part of what’s next.

About the Role:

The Testing & Automation Engineer designs, develops, and maintains automated test solutions that ensure the quality and reliability of software applications and services, operating as part of the enterprise-wide Testing function — a horizontal shared service supporting all product, platform, and engineering teams. This role increases functional test coverage through automation, reduces manual effort, and supports consistent, high-quality delivery across the software development lifecycle in accelerated, AI-assisted cycles. The Testing & Automation Engineer partners closely with Software Engineers, Product, and DevOps teams to embed quality early and continuously.

Responsibilities include but not limited to:

  • Design, develop, and maintain automated tests for UI, API, and backend services; execute functional, integration, regression, and end-to-end tests across applications and platforms, applying a test-pyramid approach that favors fast, reliable API/service-level automation.
  • Partner with Software Engineers and Product teams to define test scenarios and acceptance criteria; participate in sprint planning, refinement, and retrospectives.
  • Maintain and enhance test-automation frameworks and tooling; build resilient, maintainable automation (e.g., attribute/accessibility-based locators) that survives UI and content change; integrate automated tests into CI/CD pipelines (e.g., Azure DevOps) for continuous testing.
  • Identify, document, and track defects through resolution; perform root-cause analysis and partner with engineering teams on fixes.
  • Define and apply functional-quality release-readiness criteria; provide evidence-based quality signals and go/no-go input for releases, and report coverage and defect-escape measures.
  • Leverage AI-assisted tools across the test lifecycle (test-case generation, test-data creation, coverage analysis, defect detection); review and validate AI-generated tests, tag and report AI-generated test cases for transparency, and help define guardrails for safe, policy-compliant AI use.

Qualifications (some examples listed below):

  • 5–7+ years of experience in software testing, quality engineering, or automation roles.
  • Proficiency with automation tools and frameworks (e.g., Selenium, Cypress, Playwright, REST-assured, Postman, or similar).
  • Ability to read, write, or debug test code or scripts (e.g., Java, JavaScript/TypeScript, Python, C#).
  • Understanding of REST APIs and service-based architectures; familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and continuous-testing concepts.
  • Hands-on experience with AI-assisted testing tools and practices required.
  • Familiarity with observability concepts and using quality/monitoring signals to inform testing is a plus.
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field. Equivalent practical experience considered.

What do we offer?

  • Insurance Plans (Medical, Life)
  • Pension/401K/RSP (country specific)
  • Competitive Bonus
  • Mobility Allowance
  • Tuition Reimbursement
  • Company Holidays
  • Volunteering time
  • And More……

Compensation: The base pay range for this role is $102,700 - 128,400 annually

Pay within this range will be determined in good faith based on job-related factors, which may include skills, experience, education/training, location, and internal equity.
