Job description

AUDIOMETRIC TECHNICIAN
Starts: June 2026
10 month position; 7 hours a day; 8:00 am - 4:00 pm; Monday - Friday
$17.61/hour for 90 working-day probationary period, then $19.57/hour
 




QUALIFICATIONS: 

To perform this job successfully, an employee must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Possess or willing to obtain and maintain an Audiology Assistant license through the Montana Board of Physical, Rehabilitative, and Developmental Health Care Professionals (Montana Department of Labor and Industry), valid driver's license; skills and abilities in communication; knowledge of computers and experience with databases preferred.
 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES may include but are not limited to the following. Other duties may be assigned:
 

1. PROVIDES SERVICES TO STUDENTS BY

Prepare screening schedule for the entire year for all schools and screenings, including:

  • Screenings for: Preschool, Rimrock Learning Center, Head Start, Young Families, elementary screenings, high school. Also elementary, middle and high school rescreenings.
  • Develop hearing screening dates for all schools and district programs
  • Effectively communicate screening schedule with each building administrator and secretary with both dates for the initial screening and the re-screening. If necessary, adjust the schedule as requested by the school.
  • Effectively communicate the type of room and conditions needed to perform the screening with each building administrator and secretary.

Conducting hearing screenings and re-screenings at all schools

  • Transport and set up equipment for screenings.
  • If school has a parent volunteer to get children, must be able to effectively coordinate class screenings with that person;*
  • Components of screenings that may be conducted during a screening include:
    - Tympanometry
    - Otoscopy
    - Pure Tone Responses/Thresholds
    - Oto-Acoustic Emissions*
    - Conditioned Play Audiometry
    - Clean/sanitize all equipment used and toys used during and after screenings and evaluation correctly to keep students and staff healthy *
    - If findings are questionable, speak with teacher, administers, etc. to get more information to help audiologist be able to make appropriate recommendations*






  • With each student: evaluate the components of the screening or rescreening that will be appropriate and complete.
  • Conducting in-house office hearing screenings as necessary

Assist the audiologist during screening or evaluating young children or those with complex needs. *

  • This includes distracting children, assisting in the booth with Visual Reinforcement Audiometry, Conditioned Play Audiometry, assisting with placement of different earphones, assisting with tympanometry, otoscopy, and oto-acoustic emissions.

2. PROVIDES INFORMATION BY

  • Prepare paperwork for both initial screening and re-screening. This includes looking at teacher's schedules, class lists, and prior screening results to evaluate if a student needs to be screened.
  • Recording screening results
    - Document findings accurately for each student and convey in a timely manner to the audiologist for results recommendations.
    - After a screening has been completed, get results to audiologist for interpretation in a timely manner.

  • Providing screening results and tracking students for follow-up screenings/re-screenings.
    - Schedule student appointments for both in-house screenings and audiological hearing evaluations.*
    - Send finalized screening paperwork to building administrators, SLPs, nurses, and parents.
    - Document finalized screening results in correct places, which include the school file, PowerSchool, FileMaker Pro (or other such database), and individual student files/Progressive Follow-Ups.
    - Answer questions that parents may have regarding paperwork from screenings that they have gotten in the mail or sent home in their student's backpack.*



  • Prepare paperwork for in-house screenings and audiologist's hearing evaluations.*
  • Be able to read audiologist's hearing evaluation results so that they can be entered into different databases as listed above.*
  • Send evaluation results out to various people/organizations that may include either in the mail, email, or fax depending on who/where results need to go.*
  • Answer phone calls/return messages from parents to schedule appointments.
  • File student information as needed.*


3. OTHER DUTIES INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO:

  • Keep reception area neat and disinfect/clean toys. *
  • Call various companies and check on equipment for students or repairs as needed.*
  • Check in with students at their home school to make sure equipment is working.*
  • Change batteries and assist with troubleshooting of student hearing devices and equipment as needed and assigned by audiologist.*

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Employee supervises students during screening. If there is a volunteer at the school to assist with the screening, employee supervises the volunteer.*


PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical demands that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job include sitting, standing, walking, bending, driving, lifting up to 20 pounds. WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work environment an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of the job include the office, the soundproof booth*, a variety of screening rooms in numerous locations; and extensive in-district travel required.
