Why GM Financial Bank


GM Financial Bank is a newly formed bank. Team members joining now will play a pivotal role in shaping the bank, which will offer auto finance and deposit products. Joining GM Financial Bank means an opportunity to help build a customer-focused bank from the ground up.

The Vice President of Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) - Banking leads the development, maintenance and evolution of the bank's risk framework to ensure alignment with regulatory standards and Board-approved policies. This leadership role oversees enterprise risk management activities, operational risk programs, model risk governance, and risk reporting to executive committees and the Board. The VP ERM partners across business lines to ensure the bank's business activities remain aligned to strategy while strengthening controls, monitoring key risks, and supporting governance for long-term financial performance.

What makes you an ideal candidate:

  • Demonstrated expertise in data mining, data analysis and visualization, quantitative and analytical methods, and sophisticated reporting techniques
  • Extensive experience with data analysis and spreadsheet modeling and/or reporting
  • Advanced analytical judgment with the ability to translate data into actionable insights for senior leadership
  • Effective written and verbal presentation skills with an ability to communicate well with senior management and Federal and State bank regulators
  • Capable of managing multiple and varied projects, including ability to balance numerous tasks in a time-sensitive environment, under pressure and meeting deadlines while maintaining a big picture perspective
  • Ability to interact collaboratively and proactively with parent company peers and senior management
  • Expert level experience with: risk identification and control frameworks, risk analytics, dashboards, and reporting tools (Excel, Power BI, PowerPoint)
  • Liquidity stress testing, scenario analysis, or model validation

Work Experience
7-10+ years leadership experience in Federally Regulated Bank Enterprise Risk Management
Experience in dealing with multiple business units, executive leadership and diverse employee population in financial services 
 

Education
Bachelor's Degree in in Finance, Economics, Mathematics, Business, Business Analytics, MIS or other quantitative field (degrees in non-quantitative fields considered with adequate work experience)
Masters degree in Finance, Economics, Mathematics, Business, Business Analytics, MIS or other quantitative field - Preferred

About the role:

ERM
    Develop, maintain and evolve the bank's ERM framework in alignment with FDIC regulatory guidance for large banks and board-approved policies
    Lead risk assessments, risk inventory updates, and risk appetite calibration efforts
    Develop and maintain Key Risk Indicators (KRIs) and continuous monitoring.
    Partner with business lines to document material risks, controls, and mitigation strategies
Operational Risk
    Implement and manage the operational risk framework, including risk event capture, RCSA processes, and control testing
    Conduct root-cause analyses of operational incidents and develop recommendations to strengthen controls
    Oversee third-party vendor risk, operational resiliency, and information security risk programs in partnership with IT and bank lines of business
Model Risk
    Implement and evolve bank model governance program that meets or exceeds the requirements of FDIC FIL 22-2017
    Interface with parent company model governance team
Governance & Reporting
    Prepare monthly and quarterly risk reporting for management ERM Committee and the Board of Directors
    Maintain and update risk policies, charters, procedures and governance documentation
    Support internal audit coordination and responses to regulatory and auditor requests
    Perform other duties as assigned
    Conform with all company policies and procedures
