Massport's Labor Relations Department is dedicated to the creation of thriving partnerships between Massport and its workforce unions. Our mission is to empower positive change and drive Massport's policies forward through strategic negotiations, resulting in enhanced productivity, operational efficiency, and strong collaborative bonds with union representatives. We provide expert guidance to ensure smooth administration of collective bargaining agreements across all operating divisions and support units.

Fall 2026 Labor Relations Internship 

This internship offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in labor and employment law within a complex public-sector environment. Working alongside Massport's Labor Relations team, the intern will support meaningful projects and gain exposure to collective bargaining, grievance administration, labor relations strategy, dispute resolution, and workforce policies that directly impact Massport's operations.

Under the supervision of Labor Relations Department in-house attorneys, law student interns working in Labor Relations shall be involved in the following:

  • Assist in researching whether management decision/policies violate relevant collective bargaining Agreements and/or state labor laws.
  • Assist operating and support units with gathering, reviewing, copying etc. documentation needed for grievance hearings and labor-related litigation.
  • Assist with resolution of union grievances to include, but not limited to, analysis of settlement options, preparation, and presentation of management position during required collective bargaining Agreement grievance hearings and drafting of grievance hearing responses.
  • Assist with development of labor relations training for managers.
  • Assist with collective bargaining negotiations to include, but not limited to, analysis of contractual language, analysis of past practices, and research of relevant data outside of Massport i.e., wage comparisons, job descriptions, benefits packages, and draft proposed contractual language.
  • Attend, when appropriate, meetings between management and Union representatives and/or internal management meetings.
  • Assist with arbitration case preparation and/or Massachusetts Department of Labor Relations (DLR) cases and when possible, attend such arbitration/DLR state hearings.
  • Support additional labor relations projects and initiatives as directed.

JOB REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Current enrollment in an accredited law school pursuing a Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree.
  • Strong research, analytical, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Interest in labor, employment, or public-sector law preferred.
  • Ability to pass Massport's controlled substances screening and background/security checks.

WORK SCHEDULE

  • This position will be based at the Logan Office Center in East Boston, MA.
  • Ability to work a minimum of 15-20 hours per week during the Fall 2026 semester.
