A Glass Studio job typically involves working with glass to create artistic or functional pieces. Responsibilities may include cutting, shaping, blowing, or fusing glass, as well as operating kilns and other specialized equipment. Jobs can range from glassblowing and stained glass artistry to technical roles in industrial glass production. Many positions require creativity, craftsmanship, and knowledge of safety procedures. Experience in glass arts or formal training can be beneficial.

What does a typical day look like working in a glass studio?

A typical day in a Glass Studio involves setting up equipment, organizing materials, and working on glass pieces using a variety of techniques such as blowing, casting, or fusing. Studio members may spend part of the day collaborating on group projects, assisting with demonstrations, and maintaining cleanliness and safety protocols. Communication with team members and clients is common, and there may also be opportunities to participate in workshops or help with studio events. The work environment is hands-on, creative, and often fast-paced, making adaptability and teamwork important. Many studios encourage ongoing learning and offer pathways for professional growth through specialized training or advancement to lead artist or studio manager roles.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the glass studio position, and why are they important?

To thrive in a Glass Studio, you need technical expertise in glassblowing, kiln forming, and coldworking techniques, often supported by formal training or an art degree. Familiarity with specialized studio equipment such as glory holes, kilns, annealers, and safety systems is essential, and certification in studio safety is advantageous. About 2BGlass

2BGlass is a family-owned glassblowing studio and retail showroom in Cameron Park, California.
We're looking for someone who loves people, takes pride in creating beautiful spaces, notices the little details, and enjoys being part of a small, hardworking team. This isn't your average retail position—every day is different, and you'll play an important role in creating memorable experiences for our customers.
Retail Sales & Gallery Support (50%)

You'll be the face of our showroom, helping every guest feel welcomed while keeping the store running smoothly.
Responsibilities include:

  •  Welcome customers with warmth and genuine hospitality.
  •  Read the room—knowing when to engage, educate, or simply let customers browse.
  •  Confidently explain our products, artists, and the glassblowing process.
  •  Encourage sales through thoughtful recommendations and complementary products.
  •  Operate Shopify POS accurately and efficiently.
  •  Process cash, credit cards, gift cards, exchanges, and returns.
  •  Handle cash and customer information with honesty and integrity.
  •  Troubleshoot basic register, receipt printer, barcode scanner, and Shopify POS issues.
  •  Open and close the register accurately.
  •  Keep the checkout area organized and customer-ready.
  •  Help direct guest traffic during live demonstrations and politely redirect conversations when they interfere with the glassblowing team's ability to safely work.
  •  Maintain beautiful, fully stocked, organized retail displays throughout the day.

Cleaning & Showroom Presentation (30%)

Responsibilities include:

  •  Dust and clean glass, shelves, displays, fixtures, counters, and windows.
  •  Sweep, vacuum, mop, and maintain customer-facing areas.
  •  Keep the showroom, checkout area, entrance, and restroom clean and inviting.
  •  Remove fingerprints, clutter, packaging debris, and dust throughout the day.
  •  Reset merchandise displays and maintain organized workspaces.
  •  Notice what needs attention and take initiative without being asked.

Inventory, Store Operations & Event Assistance (20%)

Responsibilities include:

  •  Receive, barcode, label, price, and stock new inventory accurately.
  •  Ensure products are correctly entered and priced in Shopify.
  •  Monitor inventory levels and report discrepancies.
  •  Organize back stock, packaging supplies, and storage areas.
  •  Assist with inventory counts and product preparation.
  •  Tag, label, charm, and package products for retail.
  •  Help prepare merchandise and supplies for special events.
  •  Assist with event setup, checkout, customer flow, and teardown.
  •  Support the studio team with light operational tasks as needed.
We're Looking for Someone Who...

  •  Loves working with people and making them feel welcome.
  •  Is naturally outgoing and comfortable making conversation with strangers.
  •  Knows how to read people and adapt their communication style.
  •  Is confident selling without being pushy.
  •  Has exceptional attention to detail.
  •  Learns technology quickly and is comfortable using Shopify POS.
  •  Can troubleshoot basic retail technology with confidence.
  •  Is trustworthy with cash and customer information.
  •  Takes pride in cleaning, organizing, and maintaining beautiful spaces.
  •  Works independently and takes initiative.
  •  Remains calm, professional, and positive during busy days.
  •  Appreciates handmade craftsmanship and enjoys learning about glassblowing.
Bonus Points If You Have...

  •  Shopify POS experience
  •  Cash handling experience
  •  Merchandising or inventory experience
  •  Boutique, winery, museum, gallery, hospitality, or specialty retail experience
