Job description

Under the direct supervision of the President, the Estimator is responsible for evaluating commercial glazing projects and developing cost data.  The person in this role directly impacts the company’s success by accurately pricing projects to maximize profit and by developing relationships with clients to assist in the sales process.  Serving multiple internal and external stakeholders, the highly functioning Estimator will have a thorough knowledge of the commercial construction bidding process and be well-versed in glazing products and processes, as necessary to accurately forecast job costs. 


Essential Functions

  • Work closely with contractors, building owners, architects and internal personnel to plan and develop the scope, deliverables, required resources, work plan, budget, and timing for new projects.
  • Review and interpret project requirements from project specifications, architectural drawings, plans, and other bid documents
  • Accurately compile project take-offs, using industry standards and company processes.
  • Maintain established documentation process of costs and schedules in support of the bid process
  • Collaborate with external stakeholders (contractors, engineers, and architects) and internal stakeholders (Sales & Project Management teams) to ensure overall accuracy throughout the preconstruction process
  • Maintain an accurate mental accounting of all projects, as necessary to articulately communicate current and forecasted outcomes specific to each, upon demand
  • Develop and maintain extensive working knowledge of building design, procurement, and construction processes, specific to the industry
  • Ensure timely submission of bid estimates
  • Acquire and maintain updated knowledge, skills, and abilities specific to the field of Commercial Glazing, especially as pertains to systems, products, installation methods, best practices, and material pricing & availability
  • Develop and maintain relationships with clients to facilitate open communication, build rapport, and assist in garnering future business

Minimum Required Education and Experience


  1. Associate’s Degree in Construction/Estimating/ Project Management, or equivalent demonstrated through work experience
  2. Two years of work experience in a similar function


Preferred Education and Experience


  1. Bachelor’s Degree in Construction/Estimating/ Project Management, or equivalent demonstrated through work experience
  2. Sales/Estimating experience specific to Exterior Construction Finishes, especially Glazing

Supervisory Responsibility

This position has no direct reports, but is responsible to the client for the work of others.  Effective communication with various stakeholders and maintaining a balanced approach to opposing viewpoints is necessary in a supervisory capacity as necessary to manage projects.


Work Environment

This job operates in office environments, closed commercial construction sites, active commercial businesses, as well manufacturing production and warehouse environments.
