Job Summary & General Information
Under general direction of the GIS Manager, performs general support and maintenance for the GIS systems and the Cityworks/Trimble Unity enterprise work order management system for the City of Alpharetta. Provides user support and assistance to all City employees, contracts, and vendors related to the systems mentioned.
**This is an exempt position.**
Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities

Organizes and participates in the development, maintenance, and utilization of the City's GIS by:
Analyzing the feasibility of GIS application requests.
Creating and integrating new database sources into the City's overall GIS.
Ensuring ongoing and appropriate development of the City's base map and associated layers.
Ability to manage, develop and/or customize desktop and web-based applications and programs.
Designing, documenting, implementing, and testing the City's GIS end-user applications.
Assisting other City staff in the utilization of GIS technology through the development of GIS interfaces and other tools.
Conducts GIS data quality assurance and control activities in accordance with established data management standards and best practices.
Administers the City's GIS activities by:
Participating in the City GIS User Group, including the organizing, scheduling, and conducting of regular user group meetings intended to further the exchange of information and ideas among the broader City GIS community.
Establishing productive relationships among collaborating departments for GIS projects.
Coordinating data gathering and production of all maps and related geographical data for all City departments.
Acting as project manager for GIS projects involving databases or layer development.
Consulting department directors and designated staff from all City departments regarding departmental GIS needs and requirements.
In conjunction with the GIS Manager and IT Teams, performs system analysis and contributes to the design, implementation, and lifecycle maintenance of the Enterprise GIS environment.
Provides technical application support by installing, configuring, and troubleshooting GIS-related software; maintains and enhances existing applications through program modifications or deployment of new solutions; and conducts thorough testing of updated components to identify, diagnose, and resolve system errors.
Deploys and maintains GIS map and imagery services using enterprise service-publishing workflows, ensuring optimized performance, scalability, and availability across web-based mapping applications.
Maintains and administers automated workflows, scripts, and system processes to support routine and reliable processing, transformation, and delivery of GIS datasets and map products.
Assist in drone operations and processes supporting photogrammetry workflows to produce 2D and 3D deliverables. Support and use ArcGIS Reality suite of applications.
At the direction of the GIS Manager, manages the work of outside contractors in implementing GIS data for the City by:
Preparing scope of work and directing activities of consultants and vendors.
Coordinating, monitoring, and evaluating the work of outside contractors in implementing GIS data for the City.
Working with other governmental agencies to acquire and implement GIS data and applications.
Administrator of the City's Cityworks/Trimble UnitySystem:
  • Provide system support, including:

software installation, set-up and configuration;
troubleshooting user problems using the department helpdesk system;
tests modified configurations for possible errors and resolves as needed;
provides technical answers to client requests for information on system use;
responds to trouble calls and requests for major or minor systems modifications.
  • Provide system management, including:

maintains existing applications;
maintains system security; grants or revokes system access;
develops relational database and spatial data interfaces;
implementing new work activities;
§provides assistance in the design and development of potential new modules or third-party integrations;
performs system maintenance activities;
monitors for operational system changes and logs change-management events in the helpdesk system;
develop reports, work orders, and workflow processes;
developing standards and processes for data importation from various sources for related analysis;
coordinate system upgrades and testing.
• Responds to requests from users regarding system operations or hardware and software problems; provides solutions to operational problems or refers users to appropriate staff member.
• Attends relevant professional conferences and training events to ensure a contemporary understanding of GIS technologies, policies and management techniques.
• Researches and presents information on emerging trends in the GIS profession and the applicability of these trends to the City GIS program.
• Participates in developing and implementing goals, objectives, policies, and priorities for assigned programs; recommends and administers policies and procedures.
• Assists with purchase/upgrade of information systems; assists departments in determining hardware/software needs; determines required specifications and obtains price quotes; makes recommendations for additions and upgrades; research potential purchases and new products.
• Performs various duties such as word processing, spreadsheet formulation, photocopying, processing mail, performing data entry, or greeting visitors.
• Communicates with the director, manager, team, employees, other departments, program participants, outside organizations, and other individuals as needed to coordinate work activities, review the status of work, or exchange information.
• Maintains a calendar of appointments or events relating to all activities.
• Maintains confidentiality regarding data, information, documentation, processes, and functions of the City of Alpharetta.
• Creates/maintains support for department records.
• Works with other positions in the department to learn the day-to-day operation of all systems.

  • Possession of a valid Georgia Class C driver's license.
  • Possession of or ability to obtain and maintain the Georgia Crime Information Center (GCIC) Terminal Operator certification within one year of date of hire.

Preferred:
  • GISP Certification
  • Remote Pilot Certification (Part 107)
  • Project management or leadership responsibilities highly desirable.
