Description
SynTerra is seeking an experienced GIS Technician who will play a key role in creating and managing spatial data products essential to projects in the environmental consulting and engineering industry. Your main responsibilities will include developing detailed cartographic deliverables such as water-level maps, isoconcentration maps, wetland delineations, and other maps to supplement regulatory reporting efforts. You will collaborate closely with project teams and apply analytical skills to spatial data, to create the best product for our clients. Additionally, you will work closely with other geospatial team members to support the development of tools and web services that underpin our robust internal ArcGIS Enterprise deployment. This position is based in Greenville, SC, and offers an opportunity to grow within our talented geospatial services group.
Requirements
Responsibilities: (The following is a list of responsibilities of this position but is not intended to cover all duties that this position may be required to perform from time to time.)
  • Collaborate with project teams to determine the optimal approach for using geospatial technologies to meet project needs and then see implementation through to completion.
  • Produces concise, clear, innovative, and compelling cartographic output with a keen eye for visual aesthetics and analytical details.
  • Balances creativity with adherence to established industry and company GIS standards and best practices while providing an accurate, detailed, and high-quality product.
  • Uses GIS to solve problems, present results, and visually report analytical data.
  • Available as a technical resource for geospatial technologies throughout the organization.
  • Coordinates with internal clients (ex. scientists, engineers) to understand their product requirements and provide technical advice.
  • Follows guidelines and works with other geospatial services group team members for product production to maintain consistency.
  • Complies with all current policies and procedures of SynTerra.
  • Complies with all Health and Safety training to maintain a safe working environment.
  • Full-Time employees: Available to work 40 hours per week, plus additional hours as needed to meet project deadlines.
  • Other duties assigned by the Geospatial Services Program Director or his/her supervisor.

Minimum Skills/Experience Required:
• Bachelor's degree in Geography, GIS, Geology, Environmental Science, or related field.
• Experience with ESRI ArcGIS Pro including Spatial/3D Analyst Extensions.
• Experience with ArcGIS Online and/or ArcGIS Enterprise.
• Experience with Arcade, Python, or other object-oriented programming languages.
• Conceptualization skills to visualize finished products and projects.
• Familiarity with large language models (LLMs) and integrating them into existing workflows.
• Strong written and oral communication skills for all levels of technical understanding.
• CAD-GIS data interoperability and integration skills.
• Basic knowledge of civil, geological, and mechanical terminology and hardware preferred.
• GISP Certification preferred.
Physical Demands/Working Environment:
• The GIS Technician must be able to concentrate for extended periods of time paying close attention to detail.
• The GIS Technician's work environment does not require much physical movement. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit.
• This position is an office environment. There may be occasional trips to customer sites required in this job, where dust and noise may be present.
• Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and ability to adjust focus.
