Job Description:
GIS Technician - Birmingham, AL
We are seeking a detail-oriented GIS Technician (Levels I-III) to support the input, processing, and maintenance of electric distribution lines and equipment assets within an ESRI-based GIS environment. This role is ideal for candidates who enjoy collaborative work and take pride in producing accurate, high-quality geospatial data.
Key Responsibilities
  • Perform data entry, editing, and quality control of distribution network assets in an ESRI GIS database
  • Maintain accurate mapping of distribution lines, equipment, and related infrastructure
  • Collaborate with team members to ensure data consistency and adherence to established standards
  • Support GIS workflows, reporting, and map production as needed
Required Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • One of the following:
    • Bachelor's degree in Geography, GIS, or a related field
    • GIS Certificate
    • At least 2 years of full-time GIS work experience
  • Proficiency with ESRI ArcGIS
  • Competency with standard computer software, including Microsoft Office
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with ESRI ArcGIS Pro
  • Knowledge of electric power distribution systems
  • Experience with CAD (Computer-Aided Drafting)
Work Environment & Schedule
  • Full-time, 40 hours/week, Monday-Friday
  • Shifts may be 8 or 10 hours, starting as early as 7:00 AM and ending as late as 5:00 PM
  • Initial training period (~3 months; may vary) is on-site in Birmingham, AL
  • After training, the role may transition to primarily remote work, with occasional in-office requirements for meetings, training, or business needs
  • Remote work requires a stable broadband connection (minimum 20 Mbps) capable of supporting VPN and remote desktop
Location Requirement
  • Local candidates only - must live within reasonable commuting distance of Birmingham, AL
  • Relocation candidates are not eligible
  • Per diem is not provided for any on-site requirements
