Job description

Description The City of Jersey City, Division of Transportation Planning is seeking a Transportation Planning Intern to join a team of planning, design, and GIS professionals responsible for comprehensively planning the rational development of a rapidly growing, highly urbanized environment. Under supervision, this is an exciting opportunity to contribute to ongoing transportation programs and initiatives, including the implementation of Vision Zero and Let's Move JC Transportation Master Plan to address transportation issues at the street, neighborhood, and City level. Examples of Duties Assist staff with research on a variety of transportation and planning topics and develop reports of best practices.

Conduct data collection, synthesis, and analysis in support of transportation studies and projects. Develop maps, flyers, graphics, and other report and presentation materials. Participate and assist with stakeholder meetings, community meetings, and outreach events.

Conduct field work and observations for multimodal planning and safety studies. Assist with policy research and updates to municipal transportation ordinances. Assist staff with other clerical tasks as needed, such as project tracking and grant reporting.

Qualifications Required Educational Background: Candidates must be currently pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Planning, Engineering or a related field. Preferred Experience: Coursework related to urban transportation planning, research and/or analysis. Supplemental Information Essential Skills: Ability to prepare maps, charts, graphs and reports.

Ability to conduct research and survey activities. Ability to read and interpret plans, maps, and specifications. Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in written and verbal formats.

Proficiency in ArcGIS, Microsoft Excel, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe InDesign, and Adobe Photoshop.
