Job description

Geotechnical Intern

As a Geotechnical Intern at Gessner Engineering, you will assist the department in their daily operations. Your specific responsibilities are commensurate with experience and the expected learning outcomes.

Internships with Gessner Engineering uniquely feature opportunities to grow not only in your technical proficiency, but to develop as a well-rounded industry professional. Gessner delivers on this by granting our interns opportunities to work on active projects, receive training and mentorship from engineering professionals, collaborate across disciplines, and more.

Responsibilities:
  • Aid team in field service requests
  • Assisting lab crew with performing lab testing.
  • Collaborate with peers to review and request or provide guidance on appropriate project direction
  • Draft lab and field reports for project manager review and approval
  • Collaborate in a team setting with department members and other design disciplines such as civil, structural, and external sub-consultants and clients, as necessary, for project coordination.
  • Provide regular project updates and a forecast of obstacles to a supervising project manager
Skills and Special Requirements/Licensing:
  • Ability to lift 50lbs, bend, stoop, and work in varying weather conditions across varying terrain
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow directions with precise execution.
  • Basic computer operation skills and familiarity with internet-based program navigation
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and manage numerous assignments simultaneously.
  • Ability to maintain a high level of confidentially and professionalism.
  • High attention to detail
  • Ability to interact with clients, managers, and employees with a high level of professionalism.
  • Be solutions minded. Always find a way to be part of the solution
  • Be collaborative. Must have a positive attitude, work well with co-workers and clients
  • Take initiative. Seek out every opportunity to do and to learn
Availability:
  • Fall Interns are required to maintain consistent ability to work 16+ hours per week
