Job description

Responsibilities

  • Studies specifications from CAD models, blueprints, sketches or tool descriptions and plans sequence of operation to construct.
  • Operates tool room equipment at a high-level of competency which may include, but is also not limited to: CNC mill, manual mills, manual lathes, drill presses, and array of hand tools.
  • Troubleshoots and repairs a variety of stages of tooling.
  • Plans, constructs, and repairs a variety of tool, dies, jigs, gauges and fixtures to close tolerances.
  • Disassembles and assembles molds using hand tools.
  • Inspects completed tools and dies for signs of imperfections or damage that may affect the functionality.
  • Studies blueprints of products and molds to affect construction or repair of components applying knowledge of shop mathematics.
  • Regularly tests all equipment, tools, and machines to ensure they are arranged and set properly and working efficiently.
  • May provide guidance to lower-level toolmakers.


Competencies

  • Proficient with measuring instruments such as tape measures, micrometers, calipers, rulers, scribes, and geometric dimensions and tolerances.
  • Knowledge/experience with Pro E, Work NC and Power Mill by Autodesk or related CAD/CAM software
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to maintain accuracy and precision throughout the machining process.
  • Good communication with the ability to work as part of a team and collaborate effectively with engineers, mold makers, and other staff.

Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to troubleshoot and resolve issues as they arise.
