Job description

Description
Knox College invites applications for a Visiting Assistant Professor/Instructor of German to begin fall 2022. A completed Ph.D. is preferred, but ABDs will be considered seriously as well. This position is a one-year visiting position with the possibility of renewal.
We invite applications from German studies scholars with a demonstrated research and teaching focus which can contribute to interdisciplinary programs and cross-listed courses. Areas of interest include Jewish studies, gender and women's studies, film studies, Black German studies, business German and/or other areas. The successful candidate will have a strong interest and experience in teaching language, literature, and culture at all undergraduate levels of our proficiency-oriented and inclusive program.
The normal teaching load is two courses per ten week trimester. Knox is an incredibly diverse college with over 35% of the student body identifying as American students of color and an additional 15% international students. German faculty work hard to enroll a diverse group of students at all levels of instruction and successful candidates should be prepared to work to make German and Jewish Studies courses appealing and welcoming to all of Knox's students. Experience working with diverse populations of students and the ability to teach successfully in a multicultural environment is a must.
Visiting faculty members at Knox are included in all aspects of the intellectual life of the College. The visiting faculty member will have a modest annual conference travel budget and access to research resources. Pay is commensurate with first-year tenure-stream faculty hires.
Qualifications
Ph.D. in German language or related field preferred, ABD considered; native or near native fluency in German and English; and demonstrated excellence in teaching are required.
Application Instructions
Candidates should submit:
  • a cover letter addressing the candidate's preparation for inclusive teaching at a diverse liberal arts college;
