Geotechnical Engineer
Requisition Number: 2026-1630-03A
S&ME is looking for a driven and enthusiastic Geotechnical Engineer to join our Geotechnical Services team in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
As a Geotechnical Engineer, you will take on a range of responsibilities, including coordinating field data collection and overseeing field assignments. You will evaluate samples, assist with data analysis, and prepare geotechnical reports under the guidance of a licensed geotechnical engineer. You will also develop scope and fee proposals, helping to build your ability to produce clear, professional, and well-structured technical documentation.
Your Day-to-Day:
  • Collaborate with experienced professionals, working under the guidance of project managers and licensed engineers on cost estimates, proposals, project schedules, field operations, and related project tasks.
  • Engage in field exploration activities, including coordinating drilling operations, collecting soil samples, observing drill rig operations, classifying soils, and preparing boring logs.
  • Support technical data analysis for projects, including settlement evaluations, seismic site class assessments, and other analyses that inform project decisions and outcomes.
  • Assist in the development of proposals and technical reports to ensure client requirements are met, preparing clear documentation that includes findings, insights, and engineering recommendations.
  • Participate in client and project communications, providing updates, supporting stakeholder interactions, engaging in local professional organizations, and assisting leadership with business development initiatives.

What You Bring:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil or Geotechnical Engineering, Geology, Mining, or a related field
  • 2 years of experience in geotechnical or geological projects
  • Engineer in Training (EIT) or Geologist in Training (GIT) required
  • Professional Engineer/Geologist (PE/PG) or on track to obtain
  • Strong computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
  • Familiarity with computer programs gINT or OpenGround, a plus
  • A passion for geology and geotechnical solutions with a strong interest in field and analytical work

Working Conditions and Physical Demands:
You are willing and able to perform the physical demands of this position with the use of Company-provided Personal Protective Equipment, such as:
  • Working outdoors the majority of the time in varying weather conditions
  • Walking over rough, uneven terrain and standing for potentially long periods
  • Routinely lifting and carrying 40-50lbs (field/laboratory samples and equipment)
  • Working outside of normal business hours when necessary
