Job description

Senior Geotechnical Engineer - Tailings
Phoenix, AZ
Klohn Crippen Berger Ltd. (KCB) seeking a Senior Geotechnical Engineer to join our Mining Environmental Group in Phoenix, AZ. This role will support and lead geotechnical aspects of mining projects, with a focus on tailings storage facilities (TSFs), mine waste, and water management. The position offers a hybrid work arrangement and the opportunity to contribute to complex, large-scale global projects.
Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and support the design, construction, operation, and closure of tailings storage facilities
  • Perform and contribute to risk assessments, dam safety evaluations, and risk-based decision-making
  • Collaborate with clients, internal teams, and external partners on field programs and engineering solutions
  • Conduct geotechnical analyses, including slope stability and seepage assessments
  • Oversee site investigations, laboratory testing, and earthworks activities
  • Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior engineers and staff
  • Develop and maintain strong client relationships throughout project lifecycles
  • Utilize industry-standard software and tools for analysis and design
  • Participate in professional development opportunities, including conferences and training

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil, Geotechnical, or Geological Engineering (or related discipline)
  • Minimum of 10 years of relevant geotechnical engineering experience, preferably in mining
  • Eligibility for Professional Engineer (PE) licensure in the United States
