ResponsibilitiesNV5 is seeking a Project Archaeologist for our Alpharetta, GA office. While this position may contribute to various types of archaeological investigations and reports, the primary role of the open position is as lead SOI-qualified construction monitor for the preservation of sensitive resources. The Lead Monitor is expected to be on-site at all times during construction, and/or maintain a roster and schedule additional monitors as needed. The Lead Monitor is responsible for the production of daily, weekly, and end-of-field reporting under the supervision of a Senior Archaeologist (Principal Investigator) and to maintain security cameras and other equipment as needed. The Lead Monitor will maintain effective and successful communication with project team, co-workers, and clients.
- The Project Archaeologist reports to the Senior Archaeologist (Principal Investigator). Location flexibility may be possible for the preferred candidate; one or more positions may be filled through this announcement. Although the monitoring program is project-based, the successful candidate will be considered for longer-term, permanent, and more senior roles.
- The position will include weekend and overtime work, and overnight travel will be required. Travel will typically be in Southeastern U.S. GSA-rate mileage and per diem for the project location, as well as lodging, will be provided. Preferred candidates will have reliable transportation.
- The candidate may complete other archaeology-related NHPA Section 106 tasks as needed such as Management Summaries, Archaeological Resource Identification/Survey Reports at the Phase I, II, and III level of investigation, Assessment of Effects, historic contexts, etc., for a variety of clients in the transportation, energy, land development, and municipal sectors. The archaeologist will conduct research, field surveys, and data recovery initiatives to assist in the identification and evaluation of archaeological sites and will complete project tasks within deadlines and budgets.
- Professional archaeological experience in the Southeast required
- Master's degree in anthropology, archaeology, or a closely related field
- Current standing member of the Register of Professional Archaeologists (RPA) or qualified archaeologist under the Secretary of the Interior's Professional Qualifications for Archaeology (36 Code of Federal Regulations, CFR Part 61)
- Experience with Microsoft Office and ArcGIS software
- Proficiency in utilization of GPS equipment to assist with site boundary delineations
- Must possess or be able to obtain a valid driver's license prior to employment and have and maintain a satisfactory driving record
Preferred knowledge, skills, and abilities:
- Experience as an archaeological field director or project manager a plus
- DOT and/or energy-related (FERC and/or Corps-regulated pipelines, transmission lines, etc.) experience a plus
- Experience in conducting Native American consultation a plus

- Must have visual acuity for viewing a computer screen, the ability to talk, hear and sit for extended periods of time.
