We are currently seeking a motivated GIS Intern to join our Enablement GIS team in Calgary. This is a hands-on internship where you will work alongside a talented multidisciplinary team, gain real-world exposure to energy geospatial data, and contribute to work that reaches clients across the global energy industry. This position reports to the Director, GIS.

Performance Objectives

  • Support a multidisciplinary team of data scientists, financial analysts, engineers, and developers in producing GIS data used in client-facing energy research.
  • Assist in gathering, organizing, and normalizing spatial datasets under the direction of senior GIS team members.
  • Apply basic digitizing and georeferencing techniques to spatial documents under supervision.
  • Assist in maintaining data quality (QA/QC) across GIS datasets, flagging issues to senior team members.
  • Help update and maintain proprietary and open-source datasets including region and basin boundaries, infrastructure features, and geological features.
  • Participate in team standups and meetings to build understanding of GIS workflows and the broader Intelligence research process.

Competitive Candidate Profile

  • Currently enrolled in or recently completed a post-secondary program in GIS, geography, geology, geoscience, engineering technology, or a related field.
  • Basic familiarity with ArcGIS Pro or ArcGIS Online through coursework or self-directed learning.
  • Foundational understanding of geographic concepts, cartographic principles, and spatial thinking.
  • Exposure to Python, ArcPy, or SQL is required.
  • Any exposure to the oil & gas or energy transition sectors is an asset.
  • Strong attention to detail and a genuine curiosity for geospatial data and analysis.
  • Clear communicator who proactively asks questions, shares progress, and escalates uncertainty.
  • Collaborative team player who is eager to learn and willing to take on tasks that stretch their skills.
  • Self-motivated with a strong work ethic and the ability to manage tasks and meet deadlines.
