Job Description:

The Director, Chief Engineer is responsible for delivering the technical scope, cost and schedule performance for all engineering content within the division. S/he provides strategic technical leadership and implementation of objectives and initiatives based on long-term product and profitability goals. S/he is responsible for supplying and maintaining adequate resources working with engineering functional leads in the pursuit of the division’s strategic goals and operational plans. The Director, Chief Engineer is also responsible for the overall organizational health of the engineering workforce and for the recruitment, retention, and development of top talent.

The Director of Engineering’s primary responsibility is to lead a cross-functional engineering team to cultivate innovative product solutions, advance critical technology enablers, and execute product development projects that serve the Government/DoD and International markets. The Director of Engineering is responsible for ensuring technical scope, cost and schedule execution of the Engineering content of programs. The position requires flexibility to manage multiple customer requirements (cost, schedule, technical capabilities), while using analytical and strategic skills to guide the engineering team to successful program deliveries of customer needs. A key part of this role is to work collaboratively across organizational boundaries and ensure programs are smoothly transitioned to production and deployment phases. The Chief Engineer must be able to interact with Sector peers, Segment and Corporate technical leaders and diverse customers. The successful candidate is an experienced technical and business professional who is able to focus simultaneously on near- and long-term objectives.

Essential Functions:
  • Build, lead and manage the cross-functional engineering organization dedicated to the ongoing advancement of the Engineering team and division product roadmaps.
  • Technical scope, cost and schedule accountability for technical project execution.
  • Management of engineering staffing demand, allocation of resources and posting of requisitions to successfully support the division.
  • Work with the Engineering Leadership Team to conduct ongoing skills assessment and proactively address potential skills gaps. Lead and mentor the engineering leadership team to continue to develop strong technical leaders.
  • Planning and execution of product development, from product definition through production transition, across all markets to meet division goals and objectives.
  • Manage Internal Research and Development (IRAD) portfolio and develop and maintain product technology roadmap
  • Manage Engineering organization budgets.
  • Champion the New Product Introduction (NPI) process.
  • Decision maker for high level / high impact engineering technical issues.
  • Working in conjunction with the Sector leadership, co-develop the organization’s growth and product strategy.
  • Develop and support a culture of continuous improvement and best practices within the Engineering organization.
  • Maintain a climate of fostering a high level of employee motivation, performance, and commitment.
  • Oversee staffing plans and review work plans and schedules for each phase of a project in accordance with time limitations and funding.
  • Represents engineering organization with major customers and stakeholders
  • Ability to travel up to 25% (or as required by business needs).
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering
  • 15 years of applicable experience in a product development role; DoD experience a must, with 10 years experience leading cross functional teams.
  • Experience leading large engineering organizations that are geographically diverse
  • Active Secret level Security Clearance; a Top Secret/SCI is preferred; and maintain this clearance which requires US Citizenship
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Prior leadership across two or more engineering disciplines (e.g., systems, software, electrical, mechanical, test, specialty engineering).
  • Experience working in mission-critical or safety-critical development environments.
  • Experience with EVMS/CAM responsibilities and proposal development (including BOE generation).
  • Experience leading organizational change and scaling teams through growth or realignment.
  • Master’s degree in Engineering or a Master’s of Business Administration is highly desired

In compliance with pay transparency requirements, the salary range for this role in California, Massachusetts, New Jersey, Washington, and the Greater D.C. area, Denver, or NYC areas is [$177,500 MIN - $291,000 MAX]. The salary range for this role in Colorado state, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, Minnesota, New York state, Cleveland Ohio, Vermont and Virginia is [$177,500 MIN - $291,000 MAX]. This is not a guarantee of compensation or salary, as final offer amount may vary based on factors including but not limited to experience and geographic location.
