Job description


Work Hours: 8 hour minimum work day with opportunity for overtime/OT pay and double pay on Sundays (infrequent) as project needs arise. Overnight travel roughly 30%.

Location: Easton, PA

Compensation: $22 to $28 per hour, pending experience, with competitive pay and a variety of benefits.

Geophysicist Job Summary:

The Geophysicist is a critical role within Summit Drilling’s operations, responsible for supporting drilling services by locating utilities and clearing boring/well locations along with more in-depth geophysical investigations including seismic, electrical resistivity, and borehole geophysical logging. This position requires a detail-oriented individual who can work both independently and as part of a team in a hands-on, dynamic environment. The ideal candidate will have experience with utility locating equipment and a willingness to learn new technologies, with opportunities for growth into more complex geophysical applications.

Geophysicist Role Responsibilities:

Safety and Compliance:

  • Adhere to all Summit and client-specific safety programs and policies.
  • Participate in daily safety briefings and drills.
  • Properly use and maintain personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Identify and report potential hazards on the job site.
  • Ensure compliance with environmental regulations.

Equipment Preparation and Maintenance:

  • Conduct daily checks and routine maintenance of geophysical equipment and vehicles.
  • Report and document any equipment malfunctions or needs for repair.
  • Ensure equipment is clean and stored correctly after use.

Operational Support:

  • Utilize the results of the geophysical survey to assist with logistical planning for drilling and remediation activities.
  • Relay site survey results to the Project Manager.
  • Note any utility or health and safety concerns to crews and Project Managers before starting intrusive work.

Client Satisfaction and Communication:

  • Demonstrate professionalism and courtesy when interacting with clients.
  • Support the Project Manager in updating clients on project progress.
  • Address client questions and concerns promptly, escalating to the Project Manager as needed.

Data Collection and Reporting:

  • Assist in accurate and timely data collection during geophysical surveys.
  • Maintain logs and reports of survey results and data acquisition.

Team Collaboration and Development:

  • Work cooperatively with all departments to achieve project goals.
  • Share knowledge and best practices with team members.
  • Seek feedback and participate in performance evaluations.

Geophysicist Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Geology, Geosciences, Environmental Sciences, or a related field OR 2+ years of previous experience in utility locating and a High School Diploma or equivalency (GED).
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and the ability to learn additional programs such as Surfer, Uinta, and Pix4D.
  • Safety-first mindset, with a commitment to quality and environmental compliance.
  • Reliable commuter transportation to the office.
  • This is an all-weather field position with daily travel from Summit offices to various locations in PA, NJ, NY, MD, and DE with occasional overnight travel required.
  • Excellent physical condition, capable of heavy lifting, and working in varying weather conditions.
  • Strong teamwork and communication skills, with an eagerness to learn and grow within the company.
