Overview

ABOUT THE POSITION

Are you an experienced geomatics professional who thrives on leading complex projects and delivering highquality spatial data solutions? VHB is seeking a Geomatics Survey Project Manager to join our team in the New England region to support leadership in overseeing and growing our Survey Engineering, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), and Reality Capture services. In this role, you will plan, organize, and manage Geomatics activities from initial field measurements through calculations, drafting, and final deliverables, while coordinating closely with clients and internal project teams. You will work closely with multidisciplinary teams and oversee projects that provide precise survey data on the configuration, contours, boundaries, location, elevation, and dimensions of land and site features to support engineering design, construction, mapping, land development (including roadway and highway projects), and related applications.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, organize, and manage Geomatics activities related to Survey Engineering, GIS, and Reality Capture
  • Manage projects, including budgets, scopes, schedules, project staff, and client relationships
  • Coordinate the work of data collection crews, GIS analysts, survey data/CAD technicians and Researchers
  • Determine methods and procedures for establishing or reestablishing survey control
  • Perform field checks and manage quality control for all Geomatics products and deliverables
  • Research previous survey evidence, maps, deeds, physical evidence, and other records to obtain data required for surveys
  • Delineate boundaries and reference points based on analysis of survey and record evidence
  • Direct and monitor construction layout services
  • Use and/or oversee the use of specialized field and office equipment and software to collect, process, manage, and draft project data
  • Review and certify staff work to ensure a high level of precision, accuracy, and compliance with applicable standards
  • Maintain accurate notes, records, and sketches to describe and certify work performed, and assume legal responsibility for work where required
  • Coordinate delivery of Geomatics products to internal and external clients and other key stakeholders
  • Develop appropriate reports and applications for Geomatics projects (e.g., boundary analysis reports, rights reviews, data quality analyses)
  • Ensure all job functions are performed in compliance with applicable federal, state, and local regulations, as well as company policies and procedures
  • Participate in ongoing professional development aligned with career goals and emerging industry practices

Skills and Attributes

  • Proficient in reading and understanding engineering, architectural, and structural drawings
  • Extensive experience with industry-standard software and technologies for data collection, processing, management, and drafting
  • In-depth knowledge of one or more of VHB's Geomatics specialties (e.g., Survey Engineering, GIS, Reality Capture)
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Strong attention to detail; highly organized and task-oriented
  • Excellent research and analytical skills, particularly in records and boundary analysis
  • Team-oriented with the ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities
  • Motivated to lead, mentor, and develop staff
  • Ability to operate company vehicles
  • Skills and knowledge commensurate with required experience and job level 

Qualifications

  • 5-10+ years of geomatics experience, including experience managing large-scale, complex land surveying projects
  • 2-4+ years of fiscal and contract management experience
  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Degree in Survey Engineering, Geomatics, Geographic Information Systems, Engineering, or related field preferred
  • Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) license preferred
  • Client management and business development experience
  • Extensive experience using industry-standard Geomatics/CAD software and tools for field and office workflows
  • Massachusetts land surveying procedures and standards knowledge preferred

Our best estimate of the salary range for this position located in Massachusetts is $91,000- $130,000. This offer is determined based on a number of job-related factors including internal comparators, skills, education, training, credentials, experience, scope and complexity of role responsibilities and geographic location.
