What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Geomatics Project Manager, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Geomatics Project Manager, you need a solid background in geospatial sciences, project management, and land surveying, typically supported by a relevant degree and professional certification (e.g., PMP or P.Eng/PLS). Proficiency with GIS software, CAD systems, GPS technology, and project management tools is essential. Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills help manage multidisciplinary teams and client relationships effectively. These skills ensure accurate project delivery, regulatory compliance, and successful coordination of complex geomatics initiatives.

They coordinate teams of surveyors, GIS specialists, and other professionals to ensure projects are completed on time and within budget. About the Role

Coleman Company, Inc. is seeking a highly motivated Survey Project Manager to lead survey projects supporting public and private development clients across southeast Georgia. This role is ideal for a growth-oriented and entrepreneurial surveying professional who is ready to take ownership of project delivery, client communication, and technical accuracy — while helping Coleman expand and elevate our surveying capabilities. You will collaborate closely with field crews, technicians, engineers, and leadership to deliver high-quality surveying services on time and within scope.

About Us

Coleman Company, Inc. is a multidisciplinary civil engineering, planning, landscape architecture, and land surveying firm based in Savannah, GA. We deliver municipal, residential, commercial, and industrial development projects across the Southeast, known for our technical precision, responsive service, and collaborative approach. Coleman has been recognized as one of Zweig Group’s Best Firms to Work For.

What We’re Looking For

We are seeking someone who enjoys leading people and projects, values quality and integrity, and thrives in a dynamic consulting environment. If you are a licensed Surveyor — or working toward licensure — who enjoys building strong client relationships while mentoring others, we'd love to connect.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan, coordinate, and manage survey projects including defining scopes, schedules, budgets, and QA/QC
  • Supervise both field and office staff in data collection, processing, drafting, and boundary analysis
  • Perform and review boundary, topographic, construction, and ALTA surveys
  • Utilize GPS, robotic total stations, and CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD Civil 3D) to ensure quality deliverables
  • Ensure compliance with Georgia and South Carolina technical standards and regulatory requirements
  • Attend project and client meetings, provide progress updates, and resolve issues efficiently
  • Research boundary evidence, land records, deeds, easements, and prior surveys to validate findings
  • Mentor and develop survey technicians and field crews to promote safety and technical growth
  • Assist with proposal preparation and client development to support business growth
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Surveying, Civil, Geomatics, or related technical field preferred
  • Licensed PLS in Georgia or South Carolina — or ability to obtain within 6 months or currently hold (LSIT) certification
  • 5+ years of professional surveying experience including:
    • Boundary Surveys
    • Topographic Mapping
    • Subdivision Plats
    • Construction Staking
    • ALTA/NSPS Surveys
  • Strong work ethic with ability to manage multiple deadlines independently
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • High professional and ethical standards
  • Passion for mentoring and team success
