Job description

The Opportunity:

Make your mark while you grow your career. Canadian Natural's Reclamation Planning Team manages one of the largest and most complex inventories of closure sites in Western Canada. Reclamation Planners play a critical role in advancing sites through the closure process by applying technical expertise, regulatory knowledge, and sound business judgment to develop practical, defensible reclamation and remediation strategies.

This role is ideal for an experienced environmental professional who enjoys solving complex closure challenges, evaluating technical recommendations, influencing program strategy, and working collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders to deliver measurable environmental outcomes. You will be entrusted with ownership of a diverse portfolio of sites and have the opportunity to directly influence closure planning, regulatory compliance, and program performance.

  • Job location: Calgary, Alberta
  • Shift schedule: 5 x 2, 8-hour shifts
  • Safety sensitive position: Yes
  • Application deadline: August 19, 2026

Key Accountabilities:

  • Manage a portfolio of reclamation and remediation sites, applying technical judgment to prioritize work based on risk, regulatory obligations, business objectives, and closure readiness
  • Develop technically sound closure strategies, scopes of work, cost estimates, permits, and third-party agreements to support successful execution of field programs
  • Review, challenge, and provide direction on technical assessments, remedial options, reclamation strategies, and closure reports prepared by external consultants
  • Collaborate with Reclamation Operations, regulators, and other stakeholders to advance sites through the closure process and achieve program objectives
  • Monitor regulatory commitments and ensure closure activities remain aligned with provincial requirements, company standards, and approved plans
  • Contribute to annual planning and budgeting processes by evaluating costs, forecasting work programs, and identifying opportunities to improve program efficiency

What You Bring to the Role:

  • Minimum 8-10 years of progressive experience in assessment, remediation, and reclamation of upstream oil and gas sites, including technical report preparation, review, and regulatory closure planning
  • Post-secondary education in environmental science, geology, engineering, or a related discipline, supported by an applicable professional designation or technologist certification
  • Strong knowledge of Alberta reclamation, remediation, and environmental assessment regulations, with the ability to apply regulatory requirements to complex site-specific conditions
  • Demonstrated ability to evaluate and recommend fit-for-purpose closure strategies, including the application of risk-based and alternative closure approaches
  • Proven experience reviewing and providing technical direction on environmental site assessments, remedial action plans, remediation reports, and reclamation submissions
  • Strong organizational, communication, and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and work effectively in a multidisciplinary environment

What We Offer:

  • Competitive salary, stock options, company matched stock savings plan, annual bonuses
