Job description

This Opportunity

WSP has a new opportunity for an Experienced Geologist/Engineering Geologist to join the Geosciences Team in our Redmond, WA office. The qualified candidate shall have broad skills in the field of applied geology and engineering geology, be registered as a Geologist or Engineering Geologist, or capable of obtaining their license in the State of Washington. The candidate should have a minimum of 5 years of experience in geotechnical engineering consulting or related field and have a strong background in geology/engineering geology. Experience in planning and executing field exploration programs, writing proposals and reports, and managing client and project deliverables is highly desirable.

WSP's Redmond Team offers multi-disciplinary projects including geotechnical investigations, near-surface geophysical investigations, geological mapping projects, and related services to a diverse set of clients, including industrial/commercial companies, local and state agencies, and the federal government. We are looking for a self-motivated individual who would enjoy joining a team of geologists and geophysicists who are focused on client needs in the geosciences.  We are looking for someone who is focused on delivering quality consulting services and works to grow the client and project opportunities for the Geoscience Team and the office. We have in-house experts in geology, engineering, environmental remediation, and graphics/GIS who support our projects, and have access to subject matter experts worldwide. The position requires a self-motivated candidate able to work as part of local, regional, or national project teams.

Your Impact

  • Plan and manage simple and complex subsurface geologic/geotechnical exploration programs including drilling and test pit explorations
  • Review samples and assign geologic units, assign laboratory testing, and preparation of exploration records
  • Provide interpretation of subsurface conditions and develop conceptual geologic models
  • Perform geologic field reconnaissance and mapping for the identification of geologic hazards
  • Conduct geologic research, interpret geologic data and contribute to geotechnical and geologic reports and project proposals
  • Perform geotechnical construction inspection and observation, documenting observations in a detailed inspection report
  • Build and maintain long-term relationships with clients by providing technical expertise, being responsive and providing quality and cost targeted consulting services
     

Who You Are

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Geology, Earth Sciences or Engineering Geology required, Master's degree is strongly preferred
  • Minimum of 5 years of job-related experience
  • Must be a licensed geologist or licensed specialty geologist in Washington state or can obtain it
  • Ability and desire to work in the field conducting physically rigorous geologic data collection in a variety of terrain and weather conditions
  • Experience managing simple to complex subsurface investigations including drilling using various soil and rock drilling methods, test pits, CPT or geoprobes
  • Proficiency and familiarity with soil and rock logging procedures 
  • Familiarity with installation of monitoring wells and geotechnical instrumentation (VWP's, inclinometers, transducers etc)
  • Must have excellent communication and writing skills, with demonstrated report writing skills.
  • Proficiency with MS Office: Excel, Word, and Outlook
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP's health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies
  • Must be able to safely lift 50 lbs.
  • Must pass drug test, background check and must have a satisfactory driving record in accordance with the company's driving (MVR) policy
  • Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical work week
  • Travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements
     

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Specialized computer skills including database applications, GIS, OpenGround and/or gINT 

  • 40-Hour OSHA Health & Safety Training (HAZWOPER) (29 CFR 1910.120) preferred

  • Basic First Aid and Adult CPR training

Compensation:

Expected Salary (all locations): $78,300 - $111,980

WSP USA is providing the compensation range that the company in good faith believes it might pay and offer for this position, based on the successful applicant's education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities in addition to internal equity and specific geographic location. WSP USA reserves the right to ultimately pay more or less than the posted range and offer additional benefits and other compensation, depending on circumstances not related to an applicant's sex or other status protected by local, state, and/or federal law.
