Director, Genomics Core Job Summary Director, High-Throughput Genomics SharedResource

Huntsman Cancer Institute (HCI), University of Utah — Salt LakeCity, UT Huntsman Cancer Institute (HCI) at the University of Utah seeks adedicated scientist and operational leader to serve as Director ofthe High-Throughput Genomics Shared Resource (HTG). The Directorwill provide strategic vision, scientific leadership, andoperational oversight for a state-of-the-art genomics core thatenables cutting-edge research across HCI, the University of Utah,and external collaborators.

This is an exciting opportunity to lead a highly collaborativegroup that supports high-throughput sequencing and genomicstechnologies, drives innovation in assay development and technologyadoption, and strengthens HCI's research mission.

Responsibilities Position Summary

The Director will lead a multidisciplinary team, oversee daily operations and budgets,ensure high-quality and reproducible data generation, and partnerwith investigators to design and execute genomics studies. TheDirector will also guide platform evaluation and technologyadoption in response to emerging needs. The Director will report tothe Senior Director of Data Science and AI, the Deputy Director ofHCI, and interact with the Shared Resource Advisory CommitteeMembers.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and execute the strategic plan for HTG in collaborationwith HCI and University leadership.
  • Evaluate, implement, and optimize new genomic technologies andworkflows.
  • Provide expertise to investigators on experimental design,including sample preparation, library construction, and sequencingrequirements.
  • Manage core operations including staffing, scheduling, sampletracking and planning, budgeting, billing rates, vendorrelationships, and instrument repairs.
  • Ensure robust and high-quality data generation through SOPdevelopment, documentation, instrument performance monitoring, andcontinuous process improvement.
  • Engage in laboratory work and directly contribute to librarypreparation and sequencing operations.
  • Regularly update core facility website to maximize visibilityand showcase cutting edge capabilities.
  • Build strong partnerships with related shared resources (e.g.,bioinformatics, research informatics).
  • Ensure compliance with applicable safety requirements.
Minimum Qualifications

EQUIVALENCY STATEMENT: 1 year of higher educationcan be substituted for 1 year of directly related work experience(Example: bachelor's degree = 4 years of directly related workexperience).

Department may hire employee at one of the following joblevels: Director, Research Science: Requires a bachelor's (or equivalency) + 12 years or a master's (orequivalency) + 10 years of directly related work experience.

Preferences
  • PhD, MD/PhD, or equivalent terminal degree in genomics,molecular biology, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of relevant experience in high-throughput genomics,sequencing operations, assay development, or shared resourceleadership.
  • Demonstrated expertise in high-throughput sequencingworkflows.
  • Proven leadership experience managing teams and complexoperations.
  • Strong communication and customer-service orientation with atrack record of effective investigator partnership.
