We host the AGBT Meeting Series, which brings together leading researchers, innovators, industry scientists and emerging leaders from around the world to exchange ideas, share discoveries and advance the field.

The Opportunity

We are looking for a scientist who is also a natural connector.

The Senior Manager, Scientific Programs & Engagement will help ensure AGBT remains deeply connected to the science, people and communities shaping the future of genomics. This individual will work closely with the President and AGBT Organizing Committees to support the scientific development of our meetings while building meaningful relationships across academia, healthcare, agriculture, biotechnology, government and the broader genomics ecosystem.

This role combines scientific program development, community engagement, relationship building and scientific communications. The ideal candidate understands the genomics landscape, brings an established professional network and is energized by expanding it.

The Senior Manager reports to the President and works closely with AGBT Organizing Committees and internal stakeholders across Marketing & Communications, Meetings & Experiences, and Business Development & Partnerships. The role currently has no direct reports.

Key Responsibilities

Scientific Programs

• Manage the scientific abstract process across AGBT meetings, including calls for abstracts, reviewer recruitment and coordination, administration of the scoring and selection process, and scientific placement of accepted abstracts.
• Partner with the President and Organizing Committees on scientific agenda development, session themes and overall program quality.
• Lead the scientific components of poster programs and workshop recruitment and selection.
• Support identification of prospective speakers and emerging scientific leaders and maintain a strong pipeline of future candidates.
• Monitor emerging research areas, technologies and scientific conversations that should be reflected in future AGBT programs.
• Ensure scientific accuracy and appropriate context across program content and related communications.
• Lead the scientific and programmatic aspects of AGBT's Next Gen Leadership and other trainee initiatives, including nominations, applications, reviewer coordination, and administration of the evaluation and selection process.
• Develop relationships with universities, research institutions, programs and other organizations that can help broaden participation in AGBT's trainee and emerging-leader programs, with particular focus on communities and institutions currently underrepresented at AGBT meetings.
• Partner with Organizing Committees and the broader AGBT community to identify and encourage promising trainees and emerging scientific leaders to engage with AGBT.
• Coordinate with Meetings & Experiences on registration, travel, housing and onsite logistics for selected participants, and with Marketing & Communications on promotion and highlighting recipients and program impact.

Scientific & Community Engagement

• Develop and steward relationships with established and emerging scientists across academia, industry, healthcare, agriculture, government and other sectors relevant to AGBT.
• Build relationships with research institutions, scientific societies, government agencies, funding organizations, research networks, consortia and other organizations across the genomics ecosystem.
• Represent The Genome Partnership and AGBT at relevant scientific meetings, conferences and community events.
• Identify emerging scientific communities, collaborations and opportunities that can strengthen participation and engagement across AGBT programs.
• Develop a strong year-round pipeline of scientific relationships and engagement opportunities.
• Build ongoing relationships with Next Gen Leadership recipients, trainees, alumni and other emerging scientists to deepen their connection to the AGBT community.
• Develop and lead ambassador, volunteer and other community-engagement opportunities that enable members of the AGBT community to extend AGBT's reach within their institutions, networks and scientific communities.
• Bring insights from the broader scientific community back to AGBT to help inform future programming, outreach and strategy.

Scientific Communications

• Serve as an internal scientific resource and partner with Marketing & Communications to ensure content is scientifically accurate, relevant and compelling.
• Translate complex scientific topics and emerging themes into accessible insights for the broader AGBT community.
• Identify important ideas, conversations and developments emerging from AGBT meetings and help extend those insights beyond the meeting itself.
• Contribute scientific perspective to year-round community communications and outreach.

What We're Looking For

Education & Scientific Expertise

• PhD or other advanced degree in genomics, genetics, molecular biology, computational biology, biotechnology, agricultural science, precision medicine or a related scientific field preferred.
• Strong scientific fluency and the ability to engage credibly with researchers and scientific leaders across disciplines.
• Strong understanding of the genomics ecosystem and the institutions, organizations and individuals helping shape the field.

Relationship Development & Community Engagement

• An established professional network within genomics and related scientific communities, ideally spanning one or more of the communities served by AGBT.
• Familiarity with the research funding landscape, major funding organizations, research programs, consortia and collaborative networks.
• A natural relationship builder who enjoys connecting people, organizations and ideas.
• Comfort engaging with prominent scientists, industry leaders, volunteers, board members and partners.
• Genuine interest in working for a small, mission-driven not-for-profit organization where team members are collaborative, adaptable and hands-on.

Communication & Leadership

• Ability to understand complex science and communicate its significance clearly to different audiences.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Working at The Genome Partnership

This role works closely with the President, AGBT Organizing Committees and colleagues across Meetings & Experiences, Marketing & Communications, and Business Development & Partnerships.

This is a hybrid position based in the St. Louis area, with team members generally working in the office four days per week. Regular travel to AGBT meetings and other scientific conferences and events is expected. Relocation may be considered for exceptional candidates.
