What are genies and what do they do?

Genies, also known as jinn or djinn, are mythical beings originating from Arabian and Islamic folklore. Traditionally, they are believed to possess supernatural powers and are often depicted as spirits that can grant wishes to humans, usually when summoned from a lamp or bottle. In popular culture, genies are featured in stories like 'Aladdin,' where they serve as magical helpers bound to fulfill their master's requests. However, folklore also describes genies as independent beings with free will, sometimes benevolent and sometimes mischievous or even dangerous. Today, genies remain popular figures in literature, movies, and television, symbolizing the granting of wishes and the consequences that might follow.
