Job description

The Family Programs team in the Department of Learning and Engagement is looking to hire four temporary facilitators to welcome and engage families in The Samuel and Ronnie Heyman Family Art Lab. In Art Lab, kids and adults experiment, play, and create as they make connections between their own creative explorations and the ideas, tools, and techniques of modern and contemporary art. This position will work in a new installation, Art Lab: Imagination, opening in October 2026. Please note that this is not an administrative role.
Experience: Working with children and/or families in an informal learning environment and facilitating play. Knowledge of modern and contemporary art and artmaking. Strong front-facing hospitality and engagement skills.
Skills: Communicates effectively. Ability to engage intergenerational audiences. Second language helpful.
Qualities: Outgoing, personable, flexible, organized, and punctual.
Dates: October 5 - March 5, 2026
Hours: This position requires that candidates be available to work weekdays and weekends. The hours for this role fluctuate and increase at times when children are out of school. Facilitators will need to work shifts during peak holiday times such as November 21-29 (closed Thanksgiving), the holiday period from December 19-January 3 (closed Christmas Day), and mid-winter break February 13-21. Hours will be 12-24 hours/week during holiday breaks, and 6-12 hours/week during quieter periods. Note: there might be some weeks where no shifts are assigned.
Pay: $26.75 per hour
RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Facilitate visitor experiences in Art Lab including: greeting visitors and introducing the main ideas of the space; suggesting age-appropriate activities and helping visitors engage with them; connecting what visitors are doing/exploring in the lab with information about artists and artwork in MoMA's collection; suggesting ways to continue exploration, both in the Museum galleries and outside world.
  • Assist with the daily maintenance of the space, including cleaning and stocking/organizing materials.
  • Work with MoMA Guest Specialists who are responsible for, helping greet visitors, answering Museum-related questions, establishing waiting lists and administering visitor surveys.
  • Support family art making and gallery activations throughout the Museum during seasonal UNIQLO Family Days.
  • This position is in scope of MoMA's Protection of Minors policy, therefore, any offer of employment for this position will be contingent upon satisfactory completion of a background check.
