Brief Job Overview

The Senior Marketing Director, Generic Medicine Manufacturers will lead the growth strategy for USP standards, products, and solutions in support of the USP 2030 strategy. This is a key marketing leadership role within the Program, Region Operations and Strategy (PROpS) division that will be responsible for USPโ€™s flagship $180M revenue portfolio and for establishing strategic direction for future revenue growth. This role manages a portfolio that serves customers across the generic medicines industry, spanning analytical R&D through manufacturing, and coโ€‘leads the Program Unit Team with Science to shape annual priorities, goโ€‘toโ€‘market strategies, marketing plans, and stakeholder engagement efforts. The incumbent will use market insights, customer feedback, and performance data to identify trends, opportunities, and challenges, and to develop strategies that drive growth and achieve revenue and KPI targets. In addition, this role will leverage insights on target audiences, product usage and customer pain points to optimize the portfolio, strengthen customer alignment, and drive growth. Working closely with Science, Product Management, Digital Marketing, Global External Affairs, USP Education, and other crossโ€‘functional partners, this leader will ensure effective execution across the portfolio that serve pharmaceutical, CXO, or other generic medicines manufacturers.

The ideal candidate is a strategic and visionary marketing leader with deep knowledge of the pharmaceutical and life sciences landscape, including complex product life cycles, regulatory considerations, customer segmentation, and valueโ€‘based messaging. The role requires a strong blend of strategic thinking, market insight, analytical rigor, and team leadership to build integrated marketing strategies that support pipeline growth and strengthen brand credibility in the market. This supervisory role requires someone who can drive thought leadership, manage multiple priorities effectively, and develop highโ€‘performing teams. The incumbent will foster strong collaboration across functions to translate strategy into action, advance USPโ€™s mission, and deliver public health impact. Success in this role requires strong business acumen, critical thinking, project management, and excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.

Responsibilities
  • Define longโ€‘term vision and growth strategy for USP standards and solutions that address the Generics Medicines Manufacturing Industry and align with USP growth goals.
  • Develop Annual Plans, Marketing Plans and Goโ€‘Toโ€‘Market strategies that drive awareness, adoption, and usage of standards, products, and solutions to key target stakeholders.
  • Coโ€‘Lead Program Units teams in oversight and alignment of strategies, plans and budgets to ensure a seamless approach to implementation across crossโ€‘functional teams.
  • Collect data, insights and conduct market research and analyses, to identify opportunities and to inform marketing decisions.
  • Understand the pharma regulatory landscape including oversight, enforcement and actions (eg. Recalls, warnings, other changes) related to quality that impact Industry, USP standards, and customers.
  • Work closely with Science, Product Management, Digital Marketing, Regions, Global Communications, Customer Service, SCDs and others to ensure a unified approach to supporting our products across all touchpoints.
  • Regularly monitor and analyze market, industry and customer data, identifying trends, and implementing strategies to optimize product portfolio performance.
  • Present quarterly business reviews including updates, and performance metrics to executive leadership and key stakeholders.
  • Monitor market, competitive and customer trends to identify opportunities for growth and areas for improvement.
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards, laws, and internal policies, maintaining ethical conduct and governance.
  • Deliver impactful presentations and regular reports to key stakeholders and leadership team.
Who is USP Looking For?

The successful candidate will have a demonstrated understanding of our mission, commitment to excellence through inclusive and equitable behaviors and practices, ability to quickly build credibility with stakeholders, along with the following competencies and experience:

  • Bachelorโ€™s degree in business, Marketing, Life Sciences or a related field.
  • 12+ or more years of experience in marketing, brand management in biopharma, life science, or related field.
  • At least ten (10) years of experience leading and supervising direct reports and staff including crossโ€‘functional team leadership.
  • Exceptional product, process and project management skills; able to manage a diverse and rapidly changing workload, leading across multiple teams within a matrixed structure according to timelines and business goals.
  • Strong business acumen and excellent data and analytics skills.
  • Excellent presentation and communication skills the ability to inspire trust, confidence, and communicate effectively with internal and external audiences.

  • Masterโ€™s degree in Business Administration
  • Deep knowledge of the pharmaceutical industry.
  • Advanced degree in pharmacy, life sciences or related field.
  • Experience with MS Office, Salesforce, Tableau, Copilot, Adobe and others.

Compensation

Base Salary Range: USD $202,000 โ€“ 262,150 annually.

Target Annual Bonus: % Varies based on level of role.
