THE POSITION
Join Wernersville State Hospital as a Staff Physician 2 and bring your medical expertise to a team that values strong clinical leadership. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This position focuses on providing direct medical care, evaluating patient needs, and ensuring responsible treatment decisions across assigned units. You apply established medical knowledge to guide patient care, respond to emergencies, and support the work of treatment teams. As a Staff Physician 2, you will perform the following duties:

  • Physical Examinations: Perform admission and annual physical and neurological assessments and review patient records to form diagnoses and treatment plans
  • Daily Treatment: Render medical care by conducting daily rounds, ordering diagnostic studies, reviewing results, and providing follow-up care
  • Emergency Response: Respond to medical emergencies within required timeframes and initiate appropriate medical actions based on hospital procedures
  • Care Coordination: Collaborate with psychiatrists and treatment teams to integrate medical goals into patient plans and maintain clear communication
  • Medical Documentation: Maintain complete records of diagnoses, treatments, assessments, and clinical decisions to ensure regulatory compliance
  • Clinical Collaboration: Consult with families, agencies, and external medical professionals to support patient care while maintaining confidentiality

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment, 37.5 hours per week
  • Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Overtime as needed

  • Salary:Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $187,913.00 (before taxes).

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Three years of experience and/or training in the practice of medicine.

Special Requirements:

  • You must possess a license to practice medicine in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania as issued by the State Medicine Board, or the State Osteopathic Medicine Board.

Other Requirements:

  • PA residency requirement is currently waived for this title.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

Legal Requirements:

  • You must pass a background investigation.
  • A conditional offer of employment will require a medical examination and a drug screening.
  • This position falls under the provisions of the Older Adult Protective Services Act.
    • Under the Act, a conditional offer of employment will require submission and approval of satisfactory criminal history reports, including but not limited to, PA State Police and FBI clearance.
