What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a generative AI physics specialist, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Generative AI Physics Specialist, you need a solid background in physics, mathematics, and computer science, often with an advanced degree such as a Master's or Ph.D. in a related field. Expertise in machine learning frameworks (like TensorFlow or PyTorch), programming languages (such as Python), and familiarity with computational physics tools are typically required. Strong analytical thinking, creativity, and clear communication skills help in developing innovative AI models and collaborating with interdisciplinary teams. These skills enable the successful integration of AI techniques with physical systems, driving progress in research and practical applications.

What is a generative AI physicist?

A Generative AI Physicist is a professional who applies generative artificial intelligence techniques to solve complex problems in physics. They use models such as neural networks and deep learning algorithms to simulate, predict, or generate new physical phenomena and data. This role often involves interdisciplinary work combining expertise in physics, machine learning, and computer science. Generative AI Physicists contribute to advancements in scientific research, material discovery, and the automation of experimental design.

How does a generative AI physics specialist typically collaborate with other departments in interdisciplinary research projects?

As a Generative AI Physics specialist, you will often work closely with data scientists, software engineers, and domain experts from various fields such as materials science, engineering, or biomedical research. Effective collaboration involves translating complex physical models into machine learning frameworks, sharing insights to refine algorithms, and integrating AI-generated results into broader research initiatives. Regular interdisciplinary meetings and shared project management tools are commonly used to ensure alignment and foster innovation. This collaborative environment not only broadens your technical skills but also enhances your ability to communicate complex concepts to diverse teams.

Job description

Join the Team Modernizing Medicine

AtModMed, we're not just building software-we're reimagining the healthcare experience. Founded in 2010 by a practicing physician and a successful tech entrepreneur, we took a radically different approach:we hired doctors and taught them how to code. This "for doctors, by doctors" philosophy has allowed us to create an AI-enabled, specialty-specific cloud platform that places patients at the center of care.

A Culture of Excellence

When you join ModMed, you're joining an award-winning team recognized for innovation and employee satisfaction. From our global headquarters in Boca Raton Florida, and extensive employee base in Hyderabad India, we are a team of 4,500+ passionate problem-solvers on a mission to increase medical practice success and improve patient outcomes:

  • Consistently ranked as a Top Place to Work

  • 2025 Globee Business Awards:Gold Globee for "Technology Team of the Year"

  • 2025 Black Book Awards:Ranked #1 EHR in 11 Specialties

  • Florida Venture Forum:Venture-Backed Company of the Year

We are growing fast, thinking big, and we are just getting started.

Ready to modernize medicine with us?

Job Description Summary:

We are seeking AI/ML Researchers to drive innovation in large language models (LLMs), AI agents, and advanced machine learning systems. This role is ideal for hands-on researchers with a strong academic background, demonstrated publications, and practical experience translating cutting-edge AI techniques into real-world applications. You will work at the intersection of research and product, collaborating with cross-functional teams to design, develop, and deploy next-generation AI solutions that create measurable business impact.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct research in large language models, generative AI, reinforcement learning, and AI agents, with a focus on advancing state-of-the-art capabilities.
  • Design and implement new algorithms and architectures for LLM fine-tuning, adaptation, and multi-agent collaboration.
  • Translate business problems into research-driven AI solutions, working closely with stakeholders to identify opportunities for innovation.
  • Build and evaluate models using techniques such as deep learning, natural language processing, generative modeling, reinforcement learning, and multi-modal learning.
  • Own the end-to-end lifecycle of research-driven ML projects, from exploration and prototyping to production deployment and monitoring.
  • Publish findings in top-tier conferences and journals, contributing to the broader AI research community.
  • Collaborate with product managers, data engineers, and software engineers to bring research ideas into scalable, production-grade systems.
  • Partner with data engineering teams to ensure robust pipelines and infrastructure for training, experimentation, and deployment.
  • For senior/lead level, mentor junior researchers and data scientists, fostering a culture of innovation and scientific rigor.

Qualifications:

  • PhD in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, or a related quantitative field.
  • Proven track record of research excellence demonstrated by publications in top ML/AI conferences (e.g., NeurIPS, ICML, ICLR, ACL, CVPR, AAAI, KDD) or journals.
  • Experience in machine learning or AI research, with applied experience in LLMs, generative AI, or AI agents.
  • Strong proficiency in Python and ML frameworks such as PyTorch or TensorFlow.
  • Hands-on experience with MLOps tools and cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure).
  • Expertise in at least one of the following areas:
    • Large Language Models (pretraining, fine-tuning, prompt engineering, retrieval-augmented generation)
    • Autonomous AI Agents and multi-agent systems
    • Generative AI (text, vision, speech, or multimodal)
