Job description

Your role
Want to build AI that reaches a global bank's real users, but not sure where to start? UBS is putting AI at the core of how we work, and the Chief Transformation Office is where that transformation is engineered. We're looking for ambitious students to join us for a 2027 summer internship as an AI intern.
As an AI intern, you'll help us build, test, and ship AI-enabled applications that improve how thousands of colleagues work across the firm. Working alongside experienced engineers and product managers, you'll:
• design and build AI agents that automate, augment, or fully reinvent how work gets done across UBS
• apply core generative AI techniques, including prompt engineering, retrieval augmented generation (RAG), embeddings, MCP, LangGraph, and emerging agentic patterns, to deliver real production cases
• map and redesign business workflows around AI agents, pinpointing where automation and reasoning remove friction and improve outcomes
• build across the agent spectrum, using no-code and low-code platforms for fast iteration, and pro-code frameworks where deeper customization, integrations, or extensions are needed
• iterate on agent quality, improving accuracy, reliability, and usefulness through systematic testing, evaluation, and refinement
• collaborate with product, business, and platform teams to turn high-impact use cases into deployed agents that real users rely on
Join us
At UBS, we know that it's our people, with their diverse skills, experiences and backgrounds, who drive our ongoing success. We're dedicated to our craft and passionate about putting our people first, with new challenges, a supportive team, opportunities to grow and flexible working options when possible. Our inclusive culture brings out the best in our employees, wherever they are on their career journey. And we use artificial intelligence (AI) to work smarter and more efficiently. We also recognize that great work is never done alone. That's why collaboration is at the heart of everything we do. Because together, we're more than ourselves.
We're committed to disability inclusion and if you need reasonable accommodation/adjustments throughout our recruitment process, you can always contact us.
Disclaimer / Policy Statements
UBS is an Equal Opportunity Employer. We respect and seek to empower each individual and support the diverse cultures, perspectives, skills and experiences within our workforce.
Your team
You'll join the Chief Transformation Office supporting the Head of AI for Asset Management, the team driving UBS's firm-wide AI transformation. We design and build standardized AI tools, platforms, and reusable capabilities that teams across the firm depend on, from generative AI assistants to agentic workflows.
We operate as one global organization, with streams aligned to each of UBS's key business and functional areas so that what we build solves real business problems. You'll be based in either Chicago or New York City and be connected to colleagues around the world.
Your expertise
We're looking for someone who:
• is graduating between December 2027 and June 2028 with a cumulative GPA of 3.2 and above
• is pursuing a degree in computer science, software or computer engineering, data science, artificial intelligence, or a related technical field. Exposure to financial services is a plus, not a requirement
• thinks agent-first, naturally framing problems as "what should an agent do, decide, and act on" rather than "what feature should I build"
• understands the building blocks of generative AI, including LLMs, prompt engineering, RAG, embeddings, MCP, LangGraph, and emerging agentic AI patterns, and is eager to apply them to real production use cases
thinks in terms of process redesign, and is able to map how a business workflow runs today and reimagine it around AI agents, pinpointing where automation and reasoning remove friction and improve outcomes
• has strong programming fundamentals (Python preferred) and is comfortable working with APIs, modern AI frameworks, and developer tooling, used as a capability to extend pro-code agents rather than as the core of the role
• pairs technical curiosity with a responsible AI mindset, building in security, data quality, grounding, and human oversight from the start
• is a creative, strategic thinker who communicates clearly, collaborates naturally, and thrives in a fast-moving environment with high standards and real deadlines
• can evidence how experimental and responsible use of AI can improve outcomes and efficiency
Please note, this position is not eligible for any employment-based immigration sponsorship. Additionally, UBS will not provide any assistance or sign any documentation in support of any other form of immigration sponsorship including optional practical training (OPT) or curricular practical training (CPT).
