What is a generative AI developer?

A Generative AI Developer is a technology professional who specializes in designing, building, and deploying artificial intelligence systems that can create new content, such as text, images, audio, or code. They work with advanced machine learning models, like generative adversarial networks (GANs) or large language models, to enable computers to produce original outputs. These developers often collaborate with data scientists, researchers, and product teams to integrate AI-generated content into software applications and business solutions.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a generative AI developer?

To thrive as a Generative AI Developer, you need strong programming skills (especially in Python), a deep understanding of machine learning concepts, and an advanced degree in computer science or a related field. Familiarity with frameworks like TensorFlow, PyTorch, and experience with cloud platforms or model deployment tools are typically required. Creative problem-solving, adaptability, and effective collaboration are standout soft skills in this evolving field. These abilities are crucial to design, implement, and refine generative models that solve real-world problems and drive innovation.

What are some common challenges faced by generative AI developers when deploying models in production environments?

Generative AI Developers often encounter challenges such as ensuring model reliability, managing computational resource requirements, and addressing ethical considerations like data bias or content safety. Deploying generative models at scale requires robust monitoring to detect unexpected outputs or model drift, and collaboration with data engineers and product teams to optimize performance. Staying up-to-date with evolving frameworks and best practices is essential, as production environments demand both technical rigor and adaptability to new AI advancements.

What is the difference between Generative Ai Developer vs Machine Learning Engineer?

AspectGenerative Ai DeveloperMachine Learning Engineer
CredentialsBachelor's or higher in CS, AI, or related fields; experience with deep learning frameworksBachelor's or higher in CS, Data Science, or related fields; strong programming skills
Work EnvironmentDevelops AI models for content creation, chatbots, and creative applicationsBuilds and deploys ML models for various data-driven solutions across industries
Industry UsageTech, entertainment, marketing, and creative sectorsFinance, healthcare, tech, and e-commerce sectors

While both roles involve AI and machine learning, Generative Ai Developers focus on creating models that generate content, such as images or text, whereas Machine Learning Engineers develop broader ML solutions for diverse applications. The roles often overlap but differ mainly in their specific focus areas and use cases.

How to become a generative AI developer?

To become a generative AI developer, you should have a strong foundation in programming languages like Python, experience with machine learning frameworks such as TensorFlow or PyTorch, and knowledge of neural network architectures like transformers. Gaining expertise in natural language processing and deep learning, along with practical experience through projects or internships, is essential. Certifications in AI or data science can also enhance your qualifications.

Job description

Company Description
Overview
As an AI Engineer, you will play a critical role in building and scaling AI-powered capabilities that directly influence Epsilon's products, platforms, and client outcomes.
Within Epsilon's Corporate Intelligence Platform (CIP) in Enterprise Business Systems, you will be responsible for operationalizing AI-driven capabilities that make enterprise data more intuitive, intelligent, and accessible. You will design and build AI-powered experiences that enable business users to interact with data using natural language while ensuring outputs are accurate, governed, and aligned with approved business definitions and metrics.
This role offers the opportunity to work on high-impact initiatives involving generative AI, large language models (LLMs), agentic workflows, intelligent automation, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), and enterprise analytics. Your work will help transform how Epsilon teams explore data, generate insights, and make better business decisions while advancing the company's broader goals of innovation, operational excellence, and data-driven decision making.
Engineers in this position gain deep experience across applied AI, enterprise analytics, software engineering, large-scale data platforms, and production AI systems while contributing directly to Epsilon's long-term AI strategy and the evolution of the Corporate Intelligence Platform.
Responsibilities
AI-Powered Data Experiences
  • Design, develop, and deploy AI-powered solutions that are scalable, reliable, secure, and production-ready.
  • Build AI-driven interfaces that enable users to query CIP data through natural language prompts and receive structured, business-aligned responses.
  • Develop conversational AI and Genie-style experiences integrated with curated datasets, metrics layers, and business semantic models.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional partners to embed AI capabilities into internal platforms.

Generative AI & LLM Engineering
  • Contribute to the development of generative AI and LLM-based solutions using prompt engineering, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), vector search, orchestration frameworks, and model fine-tuning techniques.
  • Design and implement prompt frameworks, templates, and reusable patterns optimized for enterprise analytics, financial metrics, resource planning, and product intelligence use cases.

AI Governance & Responsible AI
  • Implement guardrails to ensure safe, accurate, compliant, and trustworthy AI responses.
  • Enforce enterprise data access controls and security requirements within AI workflows.

AI Adoption & Enablement
  • Partner with product, analytics, and engineering teams to create intuitive AI-powered user experiences.
  • Enable business users to safely self-serve insights through AI-driven workflows and conversational interfaces.
  • Support training, documentation, and adoption initiatives that drive enterprise-wide usage of AI capabilities.

Qualifications
What You'll Bring With You
  • 4+ years of experience building machine learning, AI-driven, or generative AI solutions in production environments.
  • Strong foundation in machine learning, software engineering, statistics, and data structures.
  • Proficiency in Python and experience applying production-grade software engineering practices.
  • Experience designing and optimizing prompts for reliable, repeatable AI outcomes.
  • Familiarity with large language models, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), vector search, agent-based architectures, and conversational AI experiences.
  • Experience working with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, GCP, or Databricks.
  • Strong understanding of data models, metrics, semantic layers, and data governance concepts.
  • Experience implementing AI guardrails, validation frameworks, security controls, and compliance practices.
  • Ability to work across the full AI lifecycle, from data exploration and modeling through deployment, monitoring, and continuous improvement.
  • Proven ability to collaborate effectively with product managers, analysts, engineers, and business partners.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and comfort operating in ambiguous or evolving problem spaces.

Why You Might Stand Out From Other Talent
  • Experience building enterprise AI solutions using Databricks ML/GenAI, or similar platforms.
  • Deep expertise in prompt engineering, evaluation frameworks, and AI quality measurement.
  • Experience developing natural language interfaces for analytics, reporting, and business intelligence platforms.
  • Familiarity with enterprise semantic layers, governed metrics repositories, or modern data platforms.
  • Experience collaborating closely with product and platform teams on customer-facing and enterprise AI features.
  • MS degree in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Data Science, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience).
