The Jefferson County Innovation Fellowship is a 1-2-year program that equips aspiringinnovators with the skills to transform government services throughnew technologiesandsolutions. It is a full-time role with limited medical benefits that can act as a launch pad for acareer in civic innovation and technology.

Professional Development

The Jefferson County Innovation Fellowship program is designed to provide talented individualswith an opportunity to gain practical and diverse real-world experience in governmentinnovation. Fellows will learn about the inner workings of county government and make adifference in the community through meaningful projects. Fellows will interact with seniorleaders, attend high-level meetings, and will be exposed to the responsibilities and challengesof multiple departments.

About the Position:

We are searching for a Generative AI Innovation Fellow to accelerate the county's work aroundgenerative AI. This role places you at the forefront ofcutting-edgetechnology evaluations andpilots, driving transformative change across county operations. A successful candidate willpromote responsible and ethical use of generative AI tools; research,identify, and lead pilotprojects; support policy recommendations; and work to assemble stakeholders around thecounty for generative AI pilots and projects. A successful candidate will be well versed instakeholder engagement and communications, able toleveragetheir people skills in tandem with their technical skills to keep individuals around the county engaged in the work of theemerging tech team.

As a key player in the county's innovation efforts,you'lllead impactful projects alongside theEmerging Tech team thatleveragethe potential of AI, ensuring that Jefferson Countyremainsaleader in public sector innovation. The position will report directly to the Innovation ProgramManager. The successful candidate will have project management and interpersonal skills.

Additionally, the candidate should see obstacles not as roadblocks but as opportunities to getcreative,think outside the box, and problem-solve.

SCHEDULE:

This positionoperateson our four-day work week (Monday-Thursday); however, with approvalfrom the supervisor, employees are allowed to work a five-day work week if preferred.

This limited position is hybrid, with remote work and in-office work asdeterminedby businessneed.

COMPENSATION:

Hiring Range: $29.00 - $33.00 USD Hourly

Compensation will bedeterminedbased on education,experienceand skills.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

Specifically, the Innovation Fellow (Generative AI) should expect to:

  • Engage external teams on collaborative projects involving implementation of AI tools

  • Lead the exploration, evaluation, and implementation of generative AI technologies thatcan enhance county operations and service delivery*

  • Guide strategy and support departmental implementation of AI tools (e.g.ScoutOS,ChatGPT, etc.)

  • Monitor and evaluate the impact of generative AI initiatives, providing regular reports andrecommendations for continuous improvement.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

*While generative AI is the primary focus of this role, many solutionsleveragemultiple types ofAI, and generative AI may not always be the best fit. The Generative AI Innovation Fellow willcritically assess which AI solutions best fit county needs, with an emphasis on off-the-shelfsolutions rather than custom development. Potential technologies could include but are notlimited to conversational AI, agentic AI, computer vision, natural language processing, andmore.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education:Bachelor's degree in a related field.

  • Experience working with agentic AI

  • Able to work independently and collaboratively in a complex organization.

  • Experience delivering presentations, training, or workshops
