General Trans Tech Jobs in Texas (NOW HIRING)

This position performs routine transportation operations or maintenance support work such as: roadway maintenance and
repair; light and heavy equipment operation; preventive and minor maintenance on equipment; traffic control; and helping
the public during emergency situations. Work requires contact with private entities. Employees at this level follow standard
practices that do not require frequent supervision of details.

Essential Duties:

The essential duties for the Roadway Maintenance Tech (Trans Maintenance Tech) I, II or III include:
- Determines placement of traffic control devices and installs/moves devices.
- Inspects barricades to ensure compliance with barricade standards.
- Maintains picnic and rest areas, rights-of-way, maintenance yards and comfort stations.
- Mows rights-of-way and picnic and rest areas; performs plant and landscape maintenance including trimming trees and brush.
- Assists with inspecting maintenance contract construction methods and workmanship to ensure contractors build and
maintain roadways, bridges, traffic signals and related highway structures in accordance with plans and specifications.
- Performs other job responsibilities as assigned

Additional duties for a Trans Maintenance Tech II include:
- Inspects routine maintenance contract construction methods and workmanship to ensure contractors build and maintain
roadways, bridges, traffic signals and related highway structures in accordance with plans and specifications. - Identifies, analyzes, and implements solutions for complex maintenance problems.
- Inspects materials, equipment, and production procedures in a manufacturing plant or at point of supply to ensure
construction materials meet Department specifications.
- Works on a survey crew; operates survey instruments such as theodolite, transit and level, electronic distance meter, and total survey station.

Additional duties for a Trans Maintenance Tech III include:
- Inspects routine and non-routine maintenance contract construction methods and workmanship to ensure contractors
build and maintain roadways, bridges, traffic signals and related highway structures in accordance with plans and specifications.
- May serve as a work crew project lead ensuring work performed meets project specifications.
- Trains other employees.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education:
-No education required.

Experience:
- Roadway Maintenance Tech I (TMT I) = No experience required
- Roadway Maintenance Tech II (TMT II) = 1 year experience*
- Roadway Maintenance Tech III (TMT III) = 2 years experience*
*Experience must be in transportation engineering support, roadway maintenance, construction inspection, heavy
equipment operation, or related work experience.(Experience can be satisfied by fulltime or prorated part-time equivalent).  Related technical training or education from an accredited institution may be substituted for experience on a year per year basis. Substitutions for Minimum Qualifications.

Licenses and Certifications:
- Valid driver's license at the time of application. This position requires driving a state vehicle.
- Must obtain a Commercial Class "A" Driver's License within 12 months from date of employment.

Currently Military or Veterans: US Military CDL Equivalent Conditions of Employment: US Military License candidates
must successfully obtain Texas Class "A" CDL within 120 days of employment (or whatever number of days deemed

Preferred Qualifications:
Licenses and Certifications: Commercial Driver's License (preferably with no transmission restrictions)

Competencies:
The required competencies for the Roadway Maintenance Tech (Trans Maintenance Tech I, II or III) include:
- Methods, procedures, equipment, and materials used in intermodal transportation engineering construction and
maintenance work
- The use of applicable hand and power tools, equipment, and mechanical devices of the trade
- The use of light and heavy highway equipment
- Maintaining a safe working relationship with others
- Follow verbal and written instructions
- Applicable inspection methods, procedures and techniques
- Basic vehicle mechanics, maintenance and repair procedures
- Applicable industry safety standards, guidelines and specification codes
- Prioritizing and organizing work assignments
- Using computers and applicable programs, applications, and systems

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
- Balancing-walking, standing, crouching on various surfaces without falling
- Reaching-extending hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction
- Visual Acuity-operate motor vehicles and/or heavy equipment
- Visual Acuity-determine work quality/make general observations of facilities/structures
