Job description

WJLA 7 News in the nation's capital is looking for a driven, dedicated reporter who wants to make a difference in the most important market in the world.  Expectations are high and the right candidate will have the opportunity to be part of stories the nation and the world are talking about.

THE SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE:

  • Brings A block, enterprise pitches to the table every day.
  • Knows what's going on in the market and the world at large, online and IRL.
  • Tells a great story on any platform.  From live breaking news to a quick VOSOT, social post, web piece or in-depth interview.  
  • Understands news is 24 hour a day business requiring nights, weekends and holidays. 
  • Develops sources and relationships in the community, local government, law enforcement and industry.
  • Understands the fundamental importance of journalistic ethics, objectivity and public trust.
  • Has a positive attitude and works well as a member of a team.
  • Wants to win

ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum 4 years on-air reporting experience in a commercial newsroom.
  • Comfortable with strict deadlines.
  • Understands why he/she has two ears and one mouth.
  • Desire to grow as a reporter and storyteller.
  • Comfortable with challenging feedback.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Journalism or a related field.

The hourly compensation range for this role is $43.27 to $53.45. Final compensation for this role will be determined by various factors such as a candidate's relevant work experience, skills, certifications, and geographic location. Full time positions are eligible for benefits that include participation in a retirement plan, life and disability insurance, health, dental and vision plans, flexible spending accounts, sick leave, vacation time, personal time, parental leave and employee stock purchase plan.
