About this Role
FiberTel is seeking experienced CDL HDD Crew Members (Laborers, Locators, and Vacuum Truck Operators) to join our team in Springville, Utah. We are expanding our Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD) crews and are looking for motivated individuals with experience in underground utility and telecommunications construction.
This position supports HDD operations for underground fiber optic and telecommunications projects. Candidates may be responsible for general labor duties, utility locating, operating vacuum excavation equipment, and assisting HDD operators on construction job sites. We are willing to train the right CDL-qualified candidate who is eager to build a career in HDD construction.
Pay: 23-28/hr, DOE
What You'll Do
Responsibilities:
  • Assist HDD crews with daily underground telecommunications construction activities.
  • Perform general labor tasks including hand digging, potholing, conduit placement, and site cleanup.
  • Locate existing underground utilities and verify utility markings.
  • Safely operate vacuum excavation (hydrovac) equipment when assigned.
  • Assist with setup, operation, and teardown of HDD equipment and job sites.
  • Load, unload, and transport equipment and materials.
  • Follow all OSHA, DOT, and company safety procedures.
  • Complete required daily inspections, reports, and documentation.
  • Work effectively as part of a team to complete projects on schedule.

What You'll Bring
Qualifications:
  • Previous experience in utility construction, telecommunications, HDD operations, locating, vac truck operation, or related underground construction preferred.
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather and terrain conditions.
  • Ability to lift up to 75 pounds and perform physically demanding work.
  • Strong work ethic, reliability, and commitment to safety.
  • Ability to travel locally as needed.
  • Must pass pre-employment screening and meet company driving requirements.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • CDL Class A license preferred.
  • Experience with underground fiber optic construction.
  • Utility locating experience.
  • Vacuum excavation/hydrovac experience.
  • Knowledge of HDD drilling operations and equipment.
  • OSHA certifications or other industry-related training.

Working Conditions:
This is a full-time hourly position, expected to work at least 40 hours per week. This position operates in an outdoor environment and is regularly exposed to outside weather conditions including; extreme cold, rain, sleet, snow, humidity, high temperatures, and high wind. The outside work environment will vary throughout the day including changes in terrain, traffic, urban settings, and/or rural settings. This position may occasionally be exposed to natural gas and to the risk of electrical shock. Exposure to moderate to loud noise levels.
Physical Requirements:
The employee will need to have the ability to stand for long periods of time (up to 12 hours at a time), tolerate work in extreme weather conditions, speak and hear worksite safety instructions, withstand prolonged and repeated: lifting, standing, climbing, kneeling, reaching and feeling, crouching, and crawling. The employee will need to be able to regularly lift 75 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
