Responsibilities
In this role the Lab Representative will perform the following job duties:
  • Various laboratory functions that include full and contract registration, phlebotomy, specimen processing and clerical duties that ensure proper registration, billing, collection, accessioning and preparation of laboratory specimen
  • Load specimens onto Automated Line and trouble shoots when alarms are active
  • Accept and prioritize specimens that arrive at specimen drop off
  • Answer incoming telephone calls and practice excellent customer service
  • Work the follow up lists for the department and maintains logs as necessary
  • Prepare specimens for reference labs and work send out bench when assigned
  • To work from various locations (Pavilion, North Campus or Emerson) or float between various lab departments, as needed, based on the department needs and within the scope of practice
Schedule
FTE: 1.0
Hours: 9:00am-5:30pm
Days: Monday-Friday
Qualifications
Education
Required: High School Diploma or GED
Preferred: Certification from medical assistant program, military medical or laboratory assistant program
Necessary Skills:
  • Ability to professionally and courteously interact with internal and external laboratory customers
  • Requires knowledge of computer data entry
  • Must possess good telephone communication skills
  • Basic knowledge of laboratory techniques in specimen handling
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and organize workflow
  • Requires good decision-making skills
  • Must be detail oriented
  • Must be able to handle stressful situations in a professional manner
Experience
Required: Less than one year healthcare environment experience
Preferred:
  • Phlebotomy with specific experience in hospital and geriatric environment
  • Specimen processing
  • Experience using a Laboratory Information system for accessioning and specimen tracking
