What does a general dermatologist do?

A general dermatologist is a medical doctor who specializes in diagnosing, treating, and preventing diseases of the skin, hair, and nails. They manage a wide range of conditions, including acne, eczema, psoriasis, skin infections, and skin cancers. General dermatologists also perform skin exams, provide guidance on skincare, and may conduct minor surgical procedures such as biopsies or the removal of moles. Their goal is to help patients maintain healthy skin and address any concerns related to dermatological health.

To thrive as a General Dermatologist, you need a medical degree, completion of a dermatology residency, and board certification, along with strong diagnostic and clinical skills. Familiarity with dermatoscopes, biopsy tools, electronic health record (EHR) systems, and ongoing continuing medical education are typically required.
