General Contractor Sub Contractor information

What is a general contractor sub contractor?

A General Contractor Sub Contractor is a specialized tradesperson or company hired by a general contractor to perform specific tasks as part of a larger construction project. While the general contractor manages the overall project and coordinates all activities, subcontractors handle particular aspects such as electrical work, plumbing, carpentry, or roofing. Subcontractors are typically experts in their field and work under the direction and schedule of the general contractor to ensure the project is completed efficiently and to code.

How do general contractors and subcontractors typically coordinate on a construction project?

General contractors and subcontractors work closely together to ensure projects are completed on time and within budget. The general contractor is responsible for overall project management, while subcontractors handle specialized tasks such as electrical, plumbing, or carpentry. Regular communication through meetings, progress updates, and shared schedules is essential to address issues, align on timelines, and ensure quality standards are met. Subcontractors often report to the site supervisor or project manager, fostering a collaborative environment where everyone works toward the same project goals.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a general contractor subcontractor, and why are they important?

To thrive as a General Contractor Subcontractor, you need expertise in construction methods, project management, and compliance with local building codes, often supported by relevant licenses or trade certifications. Familiarity with project management software, blueprint reading, and safety management systems is typically required. Strong communication, reliability, and problem-solving skills set exceptional subcontractors apart in coordinating with general contractors and other teams. These abilities ensure projects are completed safely, on time, and to specifications, fostering trust and ongoing business opportunities.

Commercial Construction Project Management & General Contracting Experience Required

Proset Construction is seeking an experienced and driven Construction Project Manager to join our team. In this role, you will lead high end custom home construction projects from planning through completion, ensuring they are delivered safely, on schedule, within budget, and in accordance with project specifications and quality standards.
Position Qualifications :

A successful Project Manager should possess a bachelor’s degree in Construction Management or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience, along with 4–6+ years of experience managing complex commercial construction projects for a professional general contractor or construction management firm. Candidates should have demonstrated success overseeing all phases of project delivery, including financial management, schedule performance, project controls, client relations, and overall project execution. The role requires strong knowledge of construction contracts, drawings, specifications, estimating, and construction means and methods, as well as the ability to effectively manage multiple projects simultaneously. Excellent leadership, communication, organizational, negotiation, and business management skills are essential. Proficiency in developing and maintaining detailed Critical Path Method (CPM) schedules using Primavera P6 and/or Microsoft Project is required, along with strong experience using Procore, Bluebeam, and other construction management software. A thorough understanding of construction safety regulations, quality control practices, and industry best practices is expected, with OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification preferred.
Position Summary:

A Project Manager is responsible for leading and managing all phases of commercial construction projects from preconstruction through closeout, with full accountability for scope, schedule, budget, quality, safety, and client satisfaction. This role serves as the primary point of contact for owners, architects, consultants, subcontractors, suppliers, and project stakeholders, ensuring effective communication, issue resolution, and successful project outcomes. The Project Manager provides leadership and oversight to project teams, drives decision-making, manages project risks, and leads project meetings to maintain progress and accountability. Key responsibilities include overseeing preconstruction planning, constructability reviews, procurement strategies, budgeting, scheduling, contract administration, cost control, forecasting, change management, and financial reporting. The position requires expertise in managing RFIs, submittals, project documentation, and compliance with contractual obligations, company procedures, and regulatory requirements. Additionally, the Project Manager is responsible for enforcing safety standards, ensuring quality throughout all project phases, leading project closeout activities, and maintaining accountability for overall project performance, profitability, and operational success. Other duties may be assigned as necessary to support company objectives and project execution.
At Proset Construction, we believe performance and accountability should be recognized and rewarded. While all individuals in this role hold the title of Project Manager, compensation is based on demonstrated capabilities, responsibilities, and results. As team members grow their skills, leadership, and impact within the organization, opportunities for advancement and increased compensation are available.
