Job description

Location: MA-Boston
Job Title: Reporter/Anchor - WFXT TV
Position Overview
WFXT TV Boston is looking for a dynamic, curious, and engaged Reporter who is interested in breaking stories, making strong ties in the community, and representing the station at public events. The ideal candidate will have a strong track record of being a station leader, a good newsroom citizen, and an enterprising reporter bringing unique content and wanting to be the lead when big news breaks. The preferred candidate will have the ability to fill in on the anchor desk as needed. We are looking for someone who is well-versed in promoting good journalism on social platforms and celebrating the stories that make your community great.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Reporting and Anchoring
  • Reporting live on-location in the field or in studio as assigned, visually showcasing a story with active live shots and standups.
  • Responsible for daily pitching of enterprise ideas, researching stories, and setting up and conducting interviews and stories to be part of multi-platform content creation
  • Execute the station's strategies as laid out by leadership
  • Assist in writing, pre-production, and broadcast preparation, making certain stories clear/accurate
  • Copy-edit scripts to avoid on-air errors as the last line of defense.
  • Deliver news copy on camera in a credible manner, as regularly scheduled or needed, as defined by management
  • Other duties as assigned

Digital Platforms
  • Communicate with digital staff on story updates and provide "process scripts."
  • Contribute daily to station digital platforms and initiatives, including social media.
  • Represent the station in a professional manner on all digital platforms including social media.

Contribute to editorial content/planning
  • Attend and participate in editorial meetings, as scheduled
  • Contribute to story ideas in line with station's target audience
  • Attend scheduled meetings with General Manager, News Director, or other departmental managers/employees, or company consultants relating to job duties
  • Represents the station at promotions and community affairs events to include participation in the planning process

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree (B.A.) from a four-year College or university in Journalism or Communications or equivalent
  • A minimum of 3 years of reporting in a medium to large market
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Stay abreast of current affairs and have a wide range of working knowledge and understanding of general interest subjects.
  • Must have a valid driver's license with clean driving record

The range for this position is $38.46 per hour to $62.50 per hour.
