The Field Project Engineer-Data Centers is responsible for ensuring customer satisfaction on all levels of project execution by providing remote & on-site project management, technical support, installation and sales support of various Industrial power generation equipment. This position is responsible for providing input to upfront system design & bid submission, in addition to project management services to the installation & commissioning of mission critical equipment, support and services. The Field Project Engineering Manager is a key liaison between our dealer network, the consulting engineering firms, electrical contractors, general contractors, and property owners.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Lead the preparation of the project scope definition and objectives according to the assigned project type and complexity

  • Prepare overall project schedule based on scope of work and work plan

  • Track & perform project deliverables against contract in order to meet commitments & timeframe

  • Provide consistent project updates to various stakeholders about strategy, adjustments, and progress

  • Manage contracts with vendors and suppliers by assigning tasks and communicating deliverables

  • Utilize industry best practices, techniques, and standards throughout entire project execution

  • Drive team to succeed by monitoring progress and direct adjustments as needed

  • Assist with onsite product operation during substantial completion testing and other certifications.

  • Develop technical and commercial solutions to support the Energy solutions sales team. This includes gathering field requirements from customers:

  • Listen, understand and convey customer requirements;

  • Create online diagrams, wiring diagrams, and work instructions for MV & LV switchgear, motor control centers, and power distribution centers (PDC);

  • Provide technical support for the integration of Generac products with third party supplied equipment (Building Management, Transfer Switch/Switchgear, Energy Management, and Utility protection relays).

  • Provide technical input and design feedback to engineering during new product introduction.

  • Provide feedback from the field to Service, Engineering and Manufacturing, regarding product issues and potential design improvements.

  • Point of contact between Industrial Solutions and Service to drive involvement of Field Service Engineers & dealer network as required.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelors of Science in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience

  • 10 years of relevant experience in power generation equipment installation and operations

  • Willingness to travel domestic 25% to 50% of the time

  • Prior experience with the tools and terminology using in basic project management tasks (SOW, Gantt, RASIC, etc.)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience and sound knowledge of power generation products, installations, and applications

  • Certification as a Project Management Professional or similar professional training in project management tools

  • Experienced in Electronics or Electromechanical Technology

  • Previous experience using SAP or equivalent ERP

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

  • Demonstrated knowledge of project management skills, tools, and techniques

  • Exceptional interpersonal skills including teamwork, relationship building, and collaboration.

  • Advanced knowledge of AC and DC circuitry, mechanical design, power generation, wiring diagrams, and schematics

  • Knowledge of engine maintenance and troubleshooting of diesel & natural gas engines

  • Knowledge of serial communications and connected devices

  • Knowledge of reading architectural, mechanical, and electrical blueprints with a basic understanding of basic electrical and mechanical control systems

  • Knowledge of industrial standards: UL, NEC, ASME, IEC, NEMA, NFPA

  • Knowledge of generator controls, protective relays, PLCs, & control/automation devices

  • Excellent troubleshooting skills, the ability to make independent decisions
