Job description

Job Summary:

A classroom instructor works with a K-6 homeroom teacher to meet the needs of the students in the homeroom classes. Instructors also teach math and reading groups, help supervise lunch and recess, and help their homeroom teacher with other important tasks that need to be done throughout the school day.

Duties/Responsibilities:
  • Assist homeroom teacher (grading, making copies, etc.)
  • Teach basic reading and math groups to small groups (average of 10-15 students)
  • Assist students with special education needs and accommodations
  • Monitor lunch, recess, transitions and assembly behavior
  • Keep record of grades and special education data
Required Skills/Abilities:

Successful candidates will be:

  • Energetic, enthusiastic, and committed to student success
  • No license required
  • Able to work well in a teamwork environment, including participation in a coaching model for teaching
  • Able to demonstrate good classroom management skills

A college degree is not necessary for an instructor position, and we will train and coach instructors until they are confident in their job duties. Instructors work 36.5 hours a week and only work during the school year (off during school vacations).

Successful candidates must meet highly qualified status in one of three ways:

  • Earned an Associates Degree; or
  • Earned 48 college credit hours; or
  • Successfully completing a basic academic skills (parapro) exam within the first week of hire.
