Position Summary:

Washington Gas is hiring for a Plant Maintenance Technician I to join our team. In this role, you'll play a key part in keeping our energy infrastructure running smoothly. Working under the guidance of experienced technicians and supervisors, you'll assist with the maintenance and operation of peak shaving plants, gas conditioning facilities, gate stations, and pressure regulating equipment.

What You'll Do:
Work shift assignments and oncall rotations as needed to support plant operations and emergency response.
Assist in the operation, maintenance, and repair of industrial plant equipment, including:

  • High and lowpressure natural gas, steam, air, and propane systems

  • Compressors, pumps, regulators, valves, motors, generators, heaters, and safety systems (including SCADA)

  • Natural gas, hexane, and propane storage and delivery systems

Troubleshoot equipment during operating and downtime conditions to safely restore service.
Perform mechanical repairs such as replacing bearings, pistons, rings, liners, and grinding valves.
Conduct confinedspace work and inspections as required.
Support Gas Supply Operations (GSO) facilities such as gate stations and regulator stations.
Read and interpret drawings, schematics, P&IDs, and maps.
Perform facility and grounds maintenance, including painting, plumbing, pipefitting, light construction, snow removal, and general upkeep.
Maintain accurate electronic work orders, time sheets, and maintenance records.
Keep tools, equipment, and work areas in safe working condition.
Support engineering projects, inspections, fire equipment testing, and capital or major maintenance work.
Additional cross-functional, safety, and administrative duties may be assigned.

Work Requirements:

Shift Work: As required

On Call: Rotational

Personal vehicle use: As required

Work environment: Industrial plant settings, indoor/outdoor, in all weather conditions


What You Bring/Required Qualifications:
High School Diploma/GED.

Minimum 18 months of hands-on technical or mechanical experience, such as:

  • Industrial or manufacturing equipment

  • Pumps, compressors, boilers, or rotating equipment

  • Automotive, marine, or heavy equipment maintenance

  • HVAC, plumbing, or similar skilled trades

Valid Driver's License.
Ability to:

  • Pass required preemployment assessments (Criteria)

  • Complete all required training and Operator Qualifications

  • Obtain a Maryland 4th Grade Stationary Engineer License within 18 months

  • Pass the Plant Operator I (Grade 5) qualification test within 24 months

Intermediate computer skills including data entry/electronic work order systems.
CDL holders are subject to federal testing requirements
