Position Summary

The Gas Utility Technician supports the maintenance, operation, and construction of gas distribution systems in the field. As a Gas Utility Technician, you will learn core operational tasks both in service operations and construction while ensuring safety, compliance, and reliability. This Gas Utility Technician role is ideal for individuals seeking to build technical skills, gain hands-on experience, and grow within a high-demand utility industry. 

  • Location: Findlay, OH - Primarily operating in Northwest Ohio throughout Hancock, Putnam, Seneca and surrounding counties. Must live within 30 minutes of Findlay area. 
  • Employment: Full-Time
  • Department: Operations
  • Reports To: District Manager and Assistant District Manager

Key Responsibilities

Service & Customer Work

  • Respond to service orders such as meter sets and gas turn-ons/turn-offs
  • Read meters
  • Support troubleshooting of gas service issues and leak investigations
  • Help inspect gas lines, meters, and appliances for safe operation
  • Interact with customers in a professional and courteous manner
  • Serve as an on-call emergency responder in assigned area

Maintenance & Compliance

  • Conduct leak surveys, inspections, and compliance-related tasks
  • Take odorant readings
  • Perform gas line locating 
  • Perform pressure testing and system commissioning activities
  • Assist with system upgrades, replacements, and new service connections
  • Perform routine inspections of gas distribution systems and equipment
  • Assist with maintenance and repair of pipelines, valves, and related facilities

Construction & Installation

  • Assist with construction of gas mains, service lines, and all components that are associated with those tasks (trenching, backfilling, pressure testing, pipe fusing, etc.)
  • Read and follow basic construction drawings, maps, GPS, and job instructions
  • Operate basic hand tools and equipment used in gas utility work
  • Support oversight, documentation, and inspection of subcontractors on job sites 

Safety & Documentation

  • Follow all company safety policies and federal/state regulations
  • Maintain accurate records and complete daily paperwork and reporting in a timely manner
  • Use personal protective equipment (PPE) and safe work practices
  • Maintain company vehicle, tools, and equipment
  • Identify and report unsafe conditions or hazards immediately
  • Participate in safety meetings, training, and required certifications

Qualifications

Education

  • High School Diploma or GED

Experience

  • 1–3 years of experience in natural gas, utilities, construction, or related field preferred

Requirements

  • Valid driver’s license with clean record
  • Ability to pass drug and alcohol testing
  • Complete safety and Operator Qualification (OQ) training
