Job description

Job Summary Under general supervision, this position is responsible for the removal of residential solid waste and recycling from Municipal Streets. Works as part of a crew assigned to a collection vehicle under the direction of a /residential Sanitation Driver Operator on a scheduled route to pick up curbside garbage, trash and recyclables. Operates vehicles that do not require a CDL license for the pick-up of bulk item trash and assists in yard debris and limb removal.

Assembles, repairs and delivers garbage cans and recycle bins. Performs other assigned duties which may include disassembling damaged cans, performing maintenance on vehicles, and responding to work orders from customers. Reports to the Sanitation Superintendent.

Essential Functions Picks up residential garbage and recycling materials. Picks up residential bulk items. Assists residential customers with special needs with retrieval of residential waste.

Works with other departments in the City for various cleanup activities. Monitors debris for hazardous waste. Assembles trash cans.

Assists construction crews and other crews, as needed. Assists with set up for parades and specials events. Performs preventative maintenance on vehicles.

Prepares and generates information such as garbage can log and equipment maintenance log. Operates a variety of machinery and/or equipment to include ruck pulling flatbed, fork lift and a Gator. Utilizes a variety of tools and/or sets of tools such as power drill, grease gun, and pressure washer.

Performs other duties as assigned. Education and Experience High School Diploma/GED and six (6) months of experience in a job related field, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Special Qualifications Valid Driver's License.

Successful applicants must pass a criminal background check (including driving record), pre-employment physical and drug screen. Physical Demands The work is heavy work which requires exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
